You never know what you are capable of until you actually take yourself out of your comfort zone and put yourself through the challenges!

As parents, we are sometimes condemned for doing it, sometimes for not. That's when we find ourselves "catch twenty-two".

He is a sore loser

Set the record straight

He got something up in his sleeves

We have to try our best for whatever we have been put up for.

Walk around with head held high.

Never let mishaps define who you are, keep positive about what tomorrow will bring in

I will leave the above for you all to sort out, if needed, I'll come back to it tomorrow!

We have to try our best for whatever we have been put up for.

Walk around with head held high.

Never let mishaps define who you are, keep positive about what tomorrow will bring in

As parents, we are sometimes condemned for doing it 被指责做了, sometimes for not (被指责没有那么做). That's when we find ourselves "catch twenty-two".

He is a sore loser

Set the record straight

He got something up in his sleeves
To think about how the magicians always can pull something magic out of their sleeves

I'm going very well.

how are you going 怪怪的

可能是how's it go-ing,it means everything

无论如何how are you going真的是没道理

Have a bar of it

Parks in the nearest lay-by  路侧停车处, 紧急停车处 ...

We got a new graduate nurse on the ward, who is handsome and well-mannered. More important is he cooks delicious food, whenever he is on for the day shift, he carries a big Esky with 2-3 meals in it.

One day, I asked him what the meal was in his Esky, he ran by me something I hadn't ever heard of, which was a big wonder to me: How come such a young boy like him can commit himself to such a taxing chore to which even many housewives are reluctant to dedicate themselves?

So, I just compulsively let it slip (脱口而出) : Peter, I wonder who will be the lucky girl to be marrying to you!

He put on a big smile and laughed it off. I went on asking: Have you set your mind on any girl yet?

While he seemed a bit uneasy (局促不安), my colleague found him a way out: Hey, Ping,  well done! So subtle and smooth

"Heeeheee, I was just pulling his legs!"(跟他开玩笑呢!)

The other day, I admitted a patient from regional Victoria, who was flown in by the chopper due to bad heart attack. The following conversation was among John (Patient), Mary (off-going nurse要下班的) and me.

Mary: This is John, who was flown in from xxx after presenting with severe chest pain. The regional hospital has done the thrombolysis (溶血治疗) and now he is pain free and stable....

Me: Hey, how are you feeling, John?

John: I am feeling well now, thanks!

Me: How was your flight?

John: Well, it was a shame that it wasn't a scenic flight, otherwise, I would've very much enjoyed it if I could sit by the window.

Mary: Yeah, John is doing much better and sound delightful now. But his vascular system was shut down (功能减弱) a bit before the thrombolysis, when the staff tried to put a cannula in, they met the extreme difficulties. Look at his arms now, they are quite edematous due to multiple attempts of jabs (穿刺).

John: My arms were like the dash board, staff jabbed them like playing darts (玩飞镖). But have a look now, all my veins are just so popped out that even I can put a cannula in. (Here, John was not mocking staff's skills, I know he just tried to downplay his ordeal).

Me: Oh, poor John.

While Mary went on handing over, I interjected (穿插) so many questions that she showed her hand to me (示意我停止) and said: Can you quit asking so many questions now? I am sure I will get to that later on, now your interrupting just makes me loss the train of thoughts

Me: Oh, I apologize for that. I will zip it (闭嘴) from now.

Then, I put a piece of scotch tape over my lips. Both Mary and John just bursted into laughters!

After the handover, I asked John: John, who do you live with?

John: I am living with my pooch.

Me: Any other family or social support around?

John: Unfortunately, No. I am pat malone (独自一人 John said it means"All alone").

Me: What about the exercise? Do you attend any activities after work?

John: Yeah, I am very active bloke hanging out with friends most of the time. but when my friends are not available, I just go around the wallabies (无所事事, I can't find this in dictionary, but according to John, that means running around for nothing).

Courtesy reminder (温馨提醒):

For those who followed this program, please notice that I will make some amendments to the previous posts in which I might make some mistakes.

I am doing that for two reasons: First, I hate it if I misled those who are in the process learning english. Secondly, as I said before, I post these stuff here for myself to reflect back on as well.

So, back I am to scrutinize all of them!

Thanks, @newozer for your compliments!
But I'll try to keep cool and not get these all into my head (被。。。 Because @chubbycat reminded us all this morning that compliments are just like perfumes, no matter how expensive they are, you can only enjoy their fragrance.

I will go find the original saying and post it here for you!
