It does not make sense to maximise one's interest by sacrificing the others, so the "best" here means the most efforts one can make with a bearable cost.


Not only is it philosophically logical, but ethically acceptable to the general public!

I believe you guys still remember that last year in Perth, a mother of four lost her appeal to have her second liver transplant performed after her first transplanted liver failed because of her reckless alcohol abuse and drug addiction over a period of three years.

The Human Organ Transplant Committee was unable to accept her appeal under the condition that there is a long list on liver-transplant demand, her request would be in no circumstances short-listed in the near future. Especially considering that how much this country is lack of liver resources to meet the demand from the critically affected patients.

On top of all the above mentioned, as a mentally sound adult, this lady wasn't weighing out the accountability she should take to honor her organ donor, to honor her growing-up children and significant others,  to honor the valuable life she was granted by the organ donor.

Was this case dealt with in the way against our traditional slogan: To save a life by sparing no cost?

As long as the current action remains economic, there is no need to change. But when the time that it breaks the economical balance point comes, it is beyond our reach.

So far, I haven't come across a scenario in which the finance was knocked off balance yet. So, I can't make assumption about what the solution this health care system will possibly introduce to address the potential dilemma.

But, just as you said: Time will tell it all!

Once again, @x24 We are very much enjoying your logical, mind-blowing visions. Your opinions have undoubtedly broadened our view, have taken us somewhere we wouldn't possibly be without your lead.

Very impressive lesson to me. Thanks a lot for sharing this, which I believe is also helpful to many others who don't know.

In typical Chinese education, we had been inculcated with much foolish concepts like selfless and sacrifice. Yes, they are virtues of human being. unless being exaggerated and abused...

Btw, a typo in your story I think, "... because he knew a little about fire safety skills" -> "he knew little"?

I have found the English discussion series is worthwhile and interesting, though I could not join often. I was actually taking this opportunity to learn from everyone here, since it provides us a good avenue to sharing, and mutual learning.

Many thanks to Michelle for initiating these topics and discussions.
She's done her best to turn this forum a more attractive and active place, which is appreciated by everyone who enjoys being here. Please keep going since this big family really counts on the backbone like you.

Here is a special thank you to yiping88, in your reviews I have seen passion, empathy and kindness, especially from the very limited Chinese posts. Also, when I was reading your posts, I was shocked by how naturally you were using English, just like a native. Your active participation in this forum has revitalised this small community.

If possible, I am very keen to see you sharing your path and tips of English learning, and I am confident it will do good to all our friends on this forum.

Now matter how flattering the above remarks sound, @x24 I would take your word for it! Heehee

However, I believe you deserve to know I was taken aback by both your wonderful writing and mentality.

About my writing being native, I am not quite sure I if deserve this recognition yet, but I don't mind fighting many times harder than anyone else to get at that level.

About picking up English, I never thought I would be in the better position to tell others HOW, because I don't own the brilliant record convincing enough to attract any followers. But I don't mind sharing what I went through in my learning process.

For ten years before I was granted the student visa in 2007, I constantly forced myself to live in the English context by thinking in english, watching english movies (I'll post those movies that kept me company over those years next), writing in english.

It took me more than just efforts and resilience to get me where I am today, there's something else involved as well, such as the regret for missing out on my golden years traveling around and the guilt for isolating myself from my lovely social network. Even having done all that, what I have got now is still not enough to be native, unfortunately, but I appreciate your kind words.

Sometimes, I just kept wondering, what if I was thrown into the English ocean without previous preparation, would I be possibly in a more native level than your thinking I was today? Would it be likely for me to arrive at the level as @newozer put? (小帅语录: 背单词是俺最不愿意做滴事情,俺喜欢直接拿来就用)

After every flight, QANTAS pilots fill out a form, known as a 'gripe sheet' to tell mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The mechanics fix the problem, and then document their repairs on the form.

Here are some actual maintenance problems submitted by the pilots (marked with a 'P') and the solutions recorded (marked by an 'S') by maintenance engineers, who by the way have a sense of humour:

P: Left inside main tyre almost needs replacement.
S: Left inside main tyre almost replaced.

P: Test flight OK, auto-land very rough.
S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft.

P: Something loose in cockpit.
S: Something tightened in cockpit.

P: Dead bugs on windshield.

By the way, I like to watch them with captions for a few times, then repeat again and again without!

But, maybe that's why I couldn't keep up with the speed teenagers talk such as my daughter and her friends. I couldn't keep up with the new hit--Big Bang Theory either.  I didn't put my listening skills on test that much

Anyway, you know yourself better than anyone else. Just make your own judgement, if you like!

( I have to carry the duty of being the moderator on and on... Hope someone taking the role off me shortly so that I can have an annual leave, long service leave, you name it....)

去了本论坛朋友家，看他做中医的媳妇，用中医的看闻望切等说出我好多存在的症状, 建议吃逍遥丸，
西式喷药一年多没治好的毛病,神奇地改善了不少

非得把人气死的维修师。
其中一个和以前看过的有点类似，就是公开批评某人有时候很傻，人生气了，于是道歉，纠正，说他有时候不傻。

就是放肆捉弄那味道，很喜欢。
当然这些都是虚构的。

可以借用：
比如投诉一个人的噪音达到了令人难以置信的高度，答：请调高置信度。
比如投诉一个人有证据表明你在欺骗我，答：证据已消除。
