“What’s up with me?” Mary88 mumbled to herself, ”why am I seeing all those strange sights?” She examined Tess again and as her eyes met Tess’s eyes, Mary88 suddenly felt dizzy, as if the whole world started spinning and her body is swung into the sky. The spinning becomes faster and faster, like being  carried by a tornado. The fear and suffering Mary88 endured felt like centuries and then, it just all came to a complete stop, as if time has frozen. Mary88 opened her eyes but she could see nothing, nothing but darkness, she could hear herself breathing, her heartbeat, but she could see nothing. A pink light appeared in the distance, just like a lighthouse in midst of the darkness, inviting Mary88 to go over.

My colleague was talking about an Australian actor who was popular in 1980s. My young workmate had a hard time placing who he was.

My colleague said to her:  "oh, you are probably too young to know him... What about you, Ping?"

"Me? No! I guess i am too Chinese to know him!"

I succeeded in an extremely difficult cannulation the other day at the critical moment when the medication needed to be administered straight away, everybody, especially the patient was so impressed that he kept referring my little success to his visitors afterwards.

After having enjoyed all those beautiful comments and the sense of self-satisfaction, i decided to put end to his over-stated compliments. I said that everybody else has always done a good job cannulating during the critical moment, I happened to be very lucky to hit the right spot at the right time. I asked him if he could teach me an idiom that suggested the same as I said.

"A blind chook ( 雏鸡）can sometimes find the cones". He replied.

After thinking it over, I'd rather interpret it in my amusing way: 瞎猫撞到死耗子！ Heeeheee

I overindulged in Chinese posts again these days but I remembered my commitment to you and this post, let's continue with the story making game...it maybe a master piece in the making

The manager just gave back to us our annual job performance appraisal, mine looks brighter than expected. I called on my colleague's attention on my appraisal, and said:

"Hey, Mary! Would you please look at the feedback the manager gave to me on my job performance? I was so impressed by that." (Who would talk herself up like this? Heeeheee)

Mary gave it a few glances: "Yeah, it is touching! But look at how well-spoken you were on your self-evaluation part."

Me: "That's right, I have been honest about my own professional performance on the self-evaluation section. But I didn't know that our manager would totally agree with it!"

I have heard of this phrase so many times, but never raised the question about what HANG means in it. To answer your question, I googled it and was presented with the following:

The OED reports that "getting the hang of..." meaning learning how to use a tool or device has origins in America in the 1840s. "Hang" as a noun is relatively rare, but there are older uses in art that may be connected - the hang of a composition, for example, refers to how the composition works. So getting the hang of it may come from that... learning a technique.

A female senior was asking for extra gown to cover her back while I was trying to start her ambulating.  She was telling me that a male nurse said she was flashing too much.

A staff approached our team leader today regarding a patient's future care plan, when she was told this patient was waiting for a bed in medical ward. She was taken by a big surprise and exaggerated her reaction:

"Who said there was such a transfer plan? I am the one to do the main consultation, I have never been told or suggested such a move."

Team leader: "Well, I am not sure where it was coming from, but this plan showed up in the handover sheet and has been passed on to the next team all throughout Easter break."

The staff: "Oh, no, that was such miscommunication among the multi-disciplinary team. See, it just happened as in Chinese Whisper."

At this point, I jumped in the conversation straight away: "Heyyyyy, it was so not Chinese Whisper, it was completely an Australian whisper."

While everybody bursted into laughters, I went on saying: " The other day, I overheard someone say ' It was Chinese Law' when they discussed how the rules could be bent as needed. And there is a phrase "Chinese Wall" describing the impossibilities for people to communicate effectively (无形的屏障). Now, I was just wondering why on earth everything has to have something to do with Chinese?"

In the end, that staff made a conclusive statement: "Now, I would like to make a correction to that Australian Whisper that this patient will stay put until discharge."
