The Western Australian Government has released its State Migration Plan, which lists the occupations that the state is willing to sponsor for immigration.

The Western Australian State Migration Plan targets specific skills that is needed in the state, and allows the WA Government to sponsor migrants with these skills for permanent immigration.
The occupations on the list do not relate to any specific job vacancies, nor represent any guarantee of a job in these occupations, but rather identify skills that are in demand for industry sectors in Western Australia.
The Western Australia Government signed a formal agreement with the Federal government to identify, target and sponsor skilled migrants in high demand occupations over the next four years.
The agreement with allow Western Australia to sponsor 6,000 Australia visa applications in 2010.
Training and Workforce Development Minister Peter Collier said that targeted migration will be an important strategy in filling high value vacancies unable to be filled by the local workforce.
Western Australia is in the middle of a resources and mining boom, and is expected to have a labour shortage of up to 150,000 workers by 2017.
Up to 240,000 jobs are expected to be created in WA over the next seven years, on the back of the Gorgon, Ord River and Oakajee projects.
Even with population growth and skilled migration there is still expected to be a significant gap, and so a workforce development plan for Western Australia is being developed.
