Hopefully this post will help people. There is no online training by VicRoads which is stupid imo. The main challenge in my opinion is making sure you don't click "too early" or "too late" rather than finding the actual hazard (its easy to spot the hazards).
For example in some scenes you may spot the hazard very early on but if you react immediately then you fail and if you wait too long you also fail. You need to click at the right moment.
For practice, you only need 2 websites:
1. South Australia Online Hazard test (google it) = keep restarting the test for different scenarios. This is the most accurate test and the VicRoads test is very similar to this.
2. DriveSmart victoria website
These 2 websites will prepare you properly for this exam, it's all you need to prepare for this test.
The exam is not very hard but its actually frustrating for many reasons, below are some tips to help you pass:
1. The Video quality is poor and grainy, so in many cases its difficult to see a hazard until its too late. You need to focus real hard on the video, dont get distracted.
2. In many cases you may feel you clicked on the right time but its labelled "too early" or "Too late". In one scene it asks you to click when its appropriate to turn right, if you click right after the Truck leaves the screen its TOO LATE, you need to click just before the truck moves away.
3. It's very important to realize that YOU DONT NEED TO CLICK ON EVERY VIDEO! Many people have this urge to click no matter what which leads them to fail. Make sure you have this in your mind, in many scenes you dont need to do anything so if you feel everything is good and no hazard just don't click
4. A good Tip is not to to keep looking around like you're searching for wally. Just sit back and imagine you are actually driving and just scan around for hazards.
5. The easiest ones are the ones that ask you to click when it's clear to turn right, in this video you will be stationary and need to wait till road is clear before you turn. Try not to make mistakes on these ones, since they are easy and will compensate for any failed points in other more difficult hazard scenarios.
6. Before the video begins, you will get a quick picture of what the scenario looks like. Use this picture to quickly get an idea of the speed you are driving by reading the spedometer and look around the picture to get an idea of what to expect in this scenario.
7. Before the exam begins there are 4 practice tests, do these tests over and over again until you get them all right and get a clear idea of how the test is.
Also most importantly don't panic if you feel you messed up, just keep doing the test to the best of your ability. And practice on the websites i provided few days before the test. |
