It was half year ago in a sunny afternoon when I was leaving school as usual, just unlocking my bike, something special in the air seized me.
It was sound of a solo violin, playing Bach's Partitas. It is the music which I used to listen again and again in such similar sunny afternoons , but thousands of miles away and months ago. It’s just like a long lost friend suddenly appearing in front of me.
The sound was so weak from the noisy Rundle Mall, the busiest street of South Australia. Yet it sounded so clear to me as if it's singing to my heart directly. I just followed the voice, and it brought me to a mid-aged man in the middle of Rundle Mall.
It's Chaconne in D, my favourite violin piece.
I can't remember the details now after half a year but I certainly still remember my feeling. I just stood in the middle of the street regardless the busy people passing by. I felt everything else becoming blurred except the fiddle stick in front. Sunshine in the late afternoon endowed everything with golden colour. The busy crowd blurred in my sight, the crowd, the street, the sun, and the violin, revolved together like an impressionist painting.
For the 15 minutes, I just stood there as if there were nothing else in the whole universe, the music brought me back to my university in another hemisphere. I remembered the beautiful days I escaped from class, sitting in the balcony of dormitory, having a nice cup of tea, exploring old Bach's universe. Once again I saw birds jumping in the trees, snow maintains melts to rivers, rivers go into oceans and even stars run in galaxy.
"Do you like this piece?"
I was still stunned when the man talked to me. After 2 or 3 seconds , I woke up from my dream and answered:
"Yes, I love it. It's my favourite piece, Bach's Chaconne."
"And thank you so much, your violin is so rich of feelings, it's really touching my heart. The voice is as warm as the sunshine" I tried using my poor English to express my appreciation.
"That's my pleasure, mate. I'm glad you like it" The man answered, "and the music itself is rich of everything"
Yes, I totally agreed. It's just like the life here in Australia, I think. It is simple and peaceful like Bach's music, even boring to some one maybe. Yet it is full of passion when you join into it and know it better. It could be as quite as the tender leaf growing in spring, gentle and graceful; it could also be as brilliant as fireworks, marvellous and joyful when you find out the real thing to pursuit.
Not until I gave out all my pocket money and said goodbye to the musician, did I realise back how busy the street was. I struggle walking through the crowd and back to my bike, and found it was not locked at all.
"God bless you." I remembered the musician's word. |
