Yeah, the reason there is a shortage is because Chinese parents are going nuts for this product.
The shortage is publicly reported on their webpage.
My fiance (who is Chinese) has family, friends, friends of family, friends of friends, back in China all asking her to ship it to them. She would, but there is never any left in the store when we look. Single child policy. A lots of Chinese mothers are to busy trying to have a 'big face' by spending their rich husband or families money than to breasfeed.
Not all, but a lot are like this.
Chinese families love products with alleged health benefits, proven or not. Remember, there are much less regulations surrounding advertising and food standards in China, so buying Aussie increases the chance of the alleged claims being true by many fold compared to what they can buy at home on the Chinese mainland.
You also need to be mindful of the single child policy in China for the last 2 generations. This compared to how fiercely competitive day to day can be in China, has resulted in parents going above and beyond.
They're desperate to give their child the best chance in life (far beyond the realms of what you experience over here in the west), so they will do next to anything to try and make that happen.
