What and Why? Help ACT Parks and Conservation Service and Greening Australia plant 2,500 Allocasuarina verticillata (Drooping She-oak) at Tuggeranong Hill Nature Reserve to provide food for Glossy Black Cockatoos. The Glossy Black is declared as vulnerable to the threat of extinction in the ACT and depends on the availability of Drooping She-oak seed to survive.
When? Sunday 5 June from 9:30am to 12:30pm, followed by a BBQ lunch (meat and vegetarian options)
Where? The eastern section of Tuggeranong Hill Nature Reserve (east of Theodore), access from Callister Crescent, Theodore
How to get there? PARKING IS LIMITED, SO CATCH THE BUS OR CAR POOL IF POSSIBLE
A bus will depart the City West bus terminal in Marcus Clarke St (between University Ave and Allsop St) at 8.30am, and will then pick up at 9.00am from the Kambah Village Shopping Centre car park (off Marconi Crescent). The bus will return to Kambah and Civic by 2:30pm.
If driving, turn off Tharwa Drive into Lawrence Wackett Crescent, then Chippindall Circuit, then left into Callister Crescent. Look for Greening Australia signs.
What to bring? Please bring a hat, sunscreen, long sleeves, gardening gloves, long pants, sturdy boots, water bottle and a mattock (if you have one)
What to expect? A short uphill walk from the parking area to the planting site, some steep sections (but no blackberries!), great views, and a portaloo
RSVP essential: Please RSVP for catering purposes on admin@act.greeningaustralia.org.au or 6253 3035 |
