  Off the track

Frank, Karen and the boys drove down the country road and stopped at a picnic area in the bush.

‘Can we play soccer, Mum?’ Tim asked.
‘Sure. I’ll sit and read my book,’ replied their mother.

‘I’m going for a walk in the bush,’ Frank said. ‘I’ll be back about one o’clock for lunch.’




Binoculars



Frank walked along a track. He has his binoculars with him. He looked at the native birds. He saw some black cockatoos and some wrens. Then he saw a lyrebird. It was the first lyrebird he had ever seen. The lyrebird ran into the bush.

‘I’ll follow it. I might see some more,’ he thought. He walked off the track into the bush. He did not make much noise. He watched the lyrebird through his binoculars.

此小说内容没有奶牛，名字的含义涉及到一词 connotation, 也是中学英语教育的内容之一

关于Teens的小说，西澳居住的本土作者，语言上必定本土化
最近的一些帖子反映，‘每个词都认识，就是不知道啥意思’
那咱就仔细了解一下

最近去 country 俺就真做 spooking the cows 的事了

细雨中启程高速路上



乡村路遇的牛群



country 人家几十上百英亩的土地，也许会有几个门，最外的可以称　bottom gate　 (top gate 就是主人居住房前的院门)



进入朋友家的领地



小径上的牛群不惧驶来的车，车不得不放慢速度，spooking the cows 小牛们惊撒这个牛妈妈冷眼对着车上人的镜头

年年开心，选题不错，都挺实用的。我相信动物方面的词汇，家里二年级的小孩都要超过我了。那天说起来养蚯蚓的虫子窝，还讲了一大套出来，虫子窝里的蚯蚓是叫什么什么蚯蚓，地里的蚯蚓是什么什么蚯蚓，两种有什么什么不同。

Market day

Every Saturday morning Anna, Tom and their children go to the market. They buy their vegetables, fruit and fish there.

Anna makes a shopping list and puts it in her bag. She gets in the car. Suzie is in the back seat. She loves the markets. Tom is standing by the car. They are all waiting for Nick.
‘I wish he’d hurry,’ Anna says to Suzie. ‘If we don’t get to the market soon, we’ll miss out on the best fish.’
‘Hurry up, Nick,’ calls Tom. ‘We’re going now.’
As usual, Nick isn’t ready.
‘I can’t find my shoes. Dad, have you seen them?’ Nick shouts.
‘Yes, they’re by the front door. Come on, Nick,’ Tom replies. Nick picks up his shoes and runs to the car.
‘Have you locked the door?’ asks Anna.
‘Yes, Mum,’ answers Nick.
Anna starts the car. It makes a funny noise. She tries again.
‘Was the car OK when you drove home yesterday, Tom?’ Anna asks.
‘Yes, but I think it’s got a flat battery,’ Tom says. ‘I’ll call someone to come and fix it. You walk to the market. I’ll see you there.’
‘OK,’ Anna says. ‘Come on Suzie, Nick.’
‘Hang on. I have to tie my shoelaces,’ Nick says.



Finally he’s ready and they walk down the street. They walk around the corner.
Suddenly Anna feels someone touch her bag. She looks behind her but it’s too late. A young man grabs her bag and runs off.
‘Oh no,’ she screams. ‘Stop, stop.’ Suzie and Nick scream at the man too.
‘Come on. We’ve got to hurry to the market. There’ll be a policeman there,’ Anna says.
At the market she sees two policemen and tells them about the robbery.
Suddenly, Nick sees the man in the crowd.
‘Mum, look. There’s the robber,’ Nick cries out.
The policemen run after the robber. They step in front of him.
‘Excuse me mate. What’s that under your coat?’ one of them asks.
Anna’s bag falls to the ground.
‘You’re under arrest, mate,’ the policeman says. He gives the bag to Anna and then takes the robber away. The other policeman stays with Anna and the children.

The car has a new battery. So Tom drives to the market and parks.
He walks into the market and sees his family in the crowd. They are talking to a policeman. Anna looks upset.
Tom runs over to Anna.
‘What’s happened, darling?’
‘Oh, Tom. When we were walking here, a man stole my bag. It was horrible. Luckily the police caught the robber and I’ve got my bag back. If only the car batter hadn’t been flat.

What is the Skitube?
The Skitube is a Swiss designed, primarily Australian built electric powered cog / rack driven railway system, operating 18kms south-west of Jindabyne within the Kosciuszko National Park - New South Wales’ largest national park and Australia's greatest alpine reserve - in Australia's Snowy Mountains. It provides access between the Alpine Way and Perisher Valley by way of a tunnel through the Ramshead Range to the Perisher Blue Ski Resort, stopping at the underground station in Perisher Valley. It then proceeds onwards to the resort of Blue Cow Mountain via another tunnel through the Perisher Range.
Primarily, the Skitube was designed as a winter based access system to improve entry to the Perisher skifields. Until then these fields were served by a single road of limited capacity that was, and still is, often adversely affected by snow and ice conditions during the winter months. It was also deemed to be the most efficient and environmentally acceptable alternative available. When it was decided to go ahead with the development of Blue Cow Mountain in 1984, Skitube was the most practical option for providing access to the resort and so Skitube was extended from Perisher to Blue Cow Mountain.
