第六届世界杯橄榄球赛将于2007年9月起在法国举行，届时，来自英国的尼加-欧文斯（Nigel Owens）将成为这一大赛历史上第一位公开为同性恋者的裁判。
5月21日，英国《太阳报》（The Sun）报道了欧文斯接受该报采访的谈话。欧文斯谈到了他在公开自己是同性恋者之前的矛盾心情。
欧文斯说，他曾认为同性恋的话题在球赛中是禁忌，顾虑公开自己后会影响个人前程，加上在本行业中没有其他同性恋者与自己交流，他甚至想过要自杀。但欧文斯也说，他知道隐藏自己是不会快乐的，而公开自己后所得到的朋友和同事的支持，也让他感到高兴。
35岁的欧文斯来自英国南威尔士地区的Pontyberem，他也是英国橄榄球联盟认可的裁判。
今年在法国举办的世界杯橄榄球赛将从9月7日至10月20日期间进行，将有20个国家的球队参加总共48场比赛。四年一度的世界杯橄榄球赛是国际橄榄球界的最重要赛事，也是最具吸引力的国际球赛之一，预计本届大赛将吸引200万球迷到现场观看，电视观众将高达近40亿人次。

Nigel Owens will discuss coming out in a documentary

Nigel Owens, the Welsh referee who came out in 2007, is to discuss his decision in a television documentary.

He will appear in a S4C documentary tomorrow to reveal how he mustered the courage to come out.

According to the Daily Post, he admitted he had taken years to come to terms with his sexual orientation.

"It was difficult coming to terms with and accepting that I was gay  I wasn't happy at all in my personal life and I knew I had to do something about it," he said.

"As a result, my work on the rugby field was being seriously affected. The only option I had was to face it and be open with everyone and make the biggest decision of my life.

"Overall the response has been positive."

In his autobiography Hanner Amser (Half Time) Owens revealed he tried to commit suicide before deciding to tell family and friends he was gay.

He was nominated for a Stonewall Award for Sportsperson of the Year in 2007 and went on to officiate at the Rugby World Cup in France in 2008.

The programme will be screened tomorrow at 8.25pm.
