Responsibilities  

As a Technical Support Engineer you will be part of a team that focuses on providing timely solutions to client technical problems. Based upon the assigned product(s) you will provide support directly to customers or to Symantec employees who work with external clients.

Your day to day duties will involve taking support calls directly from customers, taking accurate notes and trying to provide timely solutions. You may also need to research and reproduce customer problems in the lab to find these solutions. You may also be required to attend the customer’s site to resolve problems.  

Qualifications  

A demonstrated knowledge of system administration, Unix (Solaris, HP Unix, AIX etc) is essential. Working knowledge with data protection related hardware systems such as SCSI, RAID, tape drives and libraries and knowledge of databases such as (Oracle, Informix and DB2 etc) would be highly desired. Keeping your knowledge current will be critical to your on-going success. Required Skills:-

Superior phone skills and ability to connect with the customer
Ability to multi-task across several open cases and effective time management skills
Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
A calm and mature approach to dealing with difficult problems and people

Responsibilities  

Works with minimal supervision on analysis tasks, and with little or no supervision on development tasks.

Designs, develops, maintains and implements software modules in a given product. Participates in the definition of the lifecycle of software process and in code reviews.

With little or no supervision, completes analysis of partially defined tasks, completes major portions of complex functional specs/design documents or entire documents and completes development and/or maintenance assignments. Collaborates within and across groups in writing functional and design specifications, development schedules and user interface specifications. Identifies and suggests solutions to problems of significant scope. Generates engineering test plans from functional specification documents.

Uses professional concepts and company policies and procedures to solve a wide range of difficult problems in imaginative and practical ways. Broad application of principles, theories, and concepts in applicable discipline, plus working knowledge of other related fields. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

Qualifications  

Required Qualifications/Prior Experience/Skills/Knowledge:
* Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science
* Good understanding of modern design and programming practices
* Development experience with C# language, .NET framework, ASP.NET, JavaScript, HTML and SQL.

Preferred Skills:
* Familiarity with Windows operating system APIs
* Understanding of Windows or other operating system internals very beneficial but not required
* Knowledge of UI Design, Web page development, XML and AJAX.

* Clear verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to work well within a team environment
* Ability to think laterally in solving problems
* Ability to adapt to new changes and learn quickly
* Capacity to work under pressure

• Work to implement appropriate testing methodologies, processes and procedures
• Develop and document functional test plans
• Develop and execute test cases
• Take ownership of issues arising during testing – provide feedback to developers as appropriate
• Log and track problems through to resolution
• Communicating project/task status to other members of team
• Participation in process improvement/change programs as appropriate
• Provide assistance to product support staff as appropriate
• Work on assigned tasks as required  

Qualifications  
Formal Qualifications or at least 2 years relevant experience in software testing.

Preferred Skills:
• Proven experience in software testing
• A sound understanding of PCs, operating systems, and networks
• Test automation experience
• Knowledge of Altiris products
