。Start cleaning with a soft toothbrush and just a smear paste at 2 years of age. Start earlier only if your child can spit.
.Use only soft bristle,small head,toothbrushes.
.Always spit out tooth paste. Don't swallow toothpaste as it is absorbs into the body
.Brush teeth TWICE a day.
.Supervised brushiing is recommended until the age of 10. After your child's initial attempt at cleaning, stand behind your child, hold their head and go over teeth.
.HOW TO BRUSH:
Outside-circles or flicks massaging the gum
Tops--scrub back and forth
Inside--circles or flicks massaging the gums
.Never replace baby teeth if they are knocked out as this damages adult teeth coming through.
.If adult teeth fall out, place it in milk or saline water and seek medical attention. Never place it in regular water as this kills the tooth.
.Discourage thumb and digit finger sucking. After 3 years of age this will affect the formation of their jaw, the strength of muscles in the mouth and also the jawbones.
.It is remommended children have just one glass of juice a day watered down(1/3 rd juice) with food. NOT ON ITS OWN.
.Have some cheese after a meal. Cheese is an enzyme neutraliser. The protein CAESIN in cheese neutralises the acid attack that begins in your mouth as soon as you start eating.
.It is recommended that children start visiting the dentist early. At two years of age sitting on your lap. This is an important process to desensitise the children and make future visits relaxed.
A healthy diet is essential for oral hygiene and prevention of tooth decay. Useful terms to use with your children are everyday food and sometimes food.
.Free dental care is available for children up to the age of 18 years.
