what shall I do with my US dollars?

I brought thousands of US dollars when I arrived at Australia two months ago. First I think I will use them so I put them in home. Actually, I did't use any of them so far. My cousin told me that if I wanted to save in bank, they will be transfered into Australia dollars first. But it's too high of the rate now.

Would you please give me some advices on what shall I do with my US dollars?

As far as I know, only the Bank of China accept US$ in Au.

汇丰银行好像有美元账户，不过5000起存，而且利率很低。

如果你那里只有澳洲本土银行的话只能换成澳币了。不过不存也罢，利率很低的。

I am living in melbourne. When I accompanied with my friends to deposit the US dollar, we were told just HSBC would accept cash and they charge 2.5% when creating the account. So I highly recommend people not bring US to here.

To LZ, perhaps you have to go to a big city to deposit it.

Can I apply for a HSBC account when I visit to Sydney and the netbank as well. So that I can transfer them into my local bank when I need them?

我记得不管什么银行都是可以开美元帐户的，但是利率之底是在是相当不划算，所以一咬牙还是换了澳元再存。

NO！是2000起存，利率很低，而且在柜台存美元现金的话，要收1.5%的transaction fee，够狠的！
