>improve your english (especially listening and speaking), at least comfortable on telephone.

>Good technical skills in a specific area (.NET, j2EE, C/C++, VB/VC/ASP/SQL SERVER or device driver programming, etc).

> Good resume and cover letter

>Don't tell recruiter you're good at almost all techonologies, even you do. customize the CV to emphasize the required skills.

> learn how to address selection criteria.

> Narrow down the search. Don't apply for networking job today and .NET position tomorrow. This is the most important lesson I learnt. I used VC/VB, Delphi, ASP, com/com+, PB. I'm also familiar WITH some areas of JAVA (JSP,SERVLET,MULTITHREADING,JDBC,EJB2.0,DATA STRUCTURE). I ended up applying for two types of jobs -VB/VC/ASP/COM/COM+/SQL SERVER and Java. The result was frustrating.

> be prepared financially and psychonogically. I found my current job 2 years after I arrived here.

Be confident. This Industry is still hunting right people. Internet and embedded system will create even more jobs. These jobs are coming.
