作文题目: More houses are needed in many countries to cope with increasing populations. Would it be better to build houses in existing towns and cities, or to develop new towns in rural areas?

The populations of many countries are continuously increasing, the provision of more housing are therefore essential to satisfy the need. I would argue that it would be better to develop new towns, rather than build houses in existing towns and cities.

There are three predominant reasons why we should not build more houses at existing towns and cities. Firstly, the evidence of current situation of many extremely large cities in China, for instance, Shanghai and Beijing, already prove that it is not a good idea to keep developing at existing cities. Serious issues are incurred due to the rapid expansion beyond the affordability of these cities in many aspects, such as, incredibly crowded transport at rush hour, insufficient educational services and hospitals to keep up with the rapid pace of their population growth. Secondly, the cost of housing is relatively high in existing cities, because of the rising trend of land price and increasing labor cost. Finally, the space for accommodations in existing towns and cities is limited as the constraint of land available.

By contrast, the above issues could be fairly resolved by developing new towns at countryside. On the one hand, to build brandy new towns on greenfield, good city planning could be launched to satisfy the demand in various perspectives based on the projected population, as mentioned above, infrastructures, schools and public health systems. On the other hand, with provision of houses most likely at comparative low cost, people are able to buy spacious houses, where they could enjoy the quality lives with their family immensely.

In conclusion, the growing populations of many countries lead to the need for more housing provision, and I believe that it would be better to develop new towns, instead of expanding existing towns and cities.
