Meeting someone for the first time through the internet is never a good idea. Do you agree or disagree.
Nowadays, many people meet new friends via internet rather than face to face communication. Although it becomes an issue of hot debate, I strongly support this practice because it brings about numerous benefits.
On top of all the merits, internet enables modern people to meet new friends with much more convenience than the traditional ways. Evidently it spares individuals all the troubles and costs for traveling long time and distance for an appointment with unknown outcomes. Furthermore, if the meeting turns out to be unpleasing, the involved participants could easily terminate the meeting with a nice excuse and thus, feel less distressed or disappointmented . Therefore, for first time contacts , meeting via internet helps people socialize in an relaxed atmosphere.
An equally beneficiary effect of online acquaintance is that it alleviates the shyness or nervousness many people encounter with in the course of meeting. Due to lack of social skills, a large number of youths and adults feel nervous and unconfident when communicating with strangers in actual life. Whereas they often show good communication skills when contacting others via internet tools such as Skype or Facetime.
However, this is not to say that the drawbacks of this practice could be ignored. An common accusation is that communication online is less likely to deliver complete and in-depth information and what might be worse, criminals may disguise and cheat by contacting people via internet. Nevertheless, such problems appear less significant in comparison with the benefits generated and could be tackled with appropriate measures.
To conclude, as an alternative means of contact, internet makes people feel convenient, relaxed and confident when meeting with new friends . It is more than reasonable to anticipate that this practice will be increasingly popular among generations to come.
