I seemed to come out a little bit strong and out of blue (有点突然/无诱因), didn't I?

It was actually posted in the topic hosted by @妮南, after someone broke into (闯入) her post and dished out on her how much better Chinese system is compared to Australia's. But I relocated it here to avoid the predictable aftermath that patriotic person might create in 妮南‘s heart-felt writings.

And I felt so uncomfortable with that endless declaration under his profile as well.

I mean, come on, everybody is living their life for themselves and families, not for a country. Everybody stays where they can find the happiness.

Who are we kidding by declaring the patriotism to a country in a daily life?

Our homeland is not relying on any individuals oversea to defend it by labeling everything with patriotic carols (爱国主义颂歌).

That's very expressive an explanation, @MICHELLE07

I guess it means "Never give up until the last minute"!

I googled it, this expression came out of the scenario in Opera, a little bit hard for us to understand because of our less experience in Opera-going.

I guess in Opera, the soprano is always welcomed to the stage at the last minute, and this soprano is traditionally a big lady---Of course the tradition is not the same any more, but this expression is still in use.

Exactly as what you put, Michelle!

As long as we don't consider ourselves an isolated individual and don't regard our interests as the ones independent of the general public's, we can always say:

I AM BECAUSE WE ARE!

It means everything for the group who stand up united!

为了便于理解，我特意搜索了一下：

8球比赛使用同一颗主球(白色)及1至15号共15颗目标球，1至7号球为全色球、8号为黑色球，9至15号为双色球(又称花色球)。
比赛双方按规则确定一种球(全色或花色)为自己的合法目标球，在将本方目标球全部按规则击入袋中后，再将8号球击入袋的一方获胜该局。若一方在比赛中途将8号球误击入袋或将8号球击离台面，则对方获胜该局。

把8号球击入袋中就象打麻将放炮，对方胡了。

目标球陷在8号球后面就是很尴尬的境地。

台球运动种类似乎挺多的（没细查）

包括黑8，9球，Snooker

Thank you, Michelle, for filling me in on this knowledge gap. Now, "STUCK BEHIND THE EIGHT BALL" is a make-perfect-sense expression for me!

查了一下
We say something is 'Bigger than Ben Hur' if it is of epic proportions, extravagant, massive, more than it should be.

The MGM film Ben-Hur was released in 1959 and had a budget of $15 million (a huge budget for the day); a gamble that paid off, when it reaped $90 million worldwide.
Oprah is bigger than Ben Hur.

To be honest, I have never come across this expression until you brought it up. It seemed that you have come up with a pretty clear explanation for it, now it sounds all added up.

From what you figured out, the MGM film Ben-Hur achieved something as the modern blockbusters do nowadays.

But I am not so sure about comparing Oprah with a hero in a film, since it was the film itself that made a huge hit, it was big in a financial sense, while Oprah was big in a sense of her worldwide influence as as mentor and role-model.

If you like, can I come back to this on a later date? Or we can call for the attention on it from @EmilyS @MICHELLE07 @keepdancing @chubbycat @yearshappy
