To LZ: I admire your persistence debating with all "Chinese" in this post, but this is really immature. Trying to fit into the mainstream community is not wrong but discrediting your ethinic background, your ancestry and your fellow Chinese people is just disgusting. The root cause of your extreme behavior is your insecurity, you believe yourself worth is measured by others and you think your Chinese heritage is a burden to you. In short, you discriminate against yourself.
You may think you are all different and "white" because you communicate in English and have few local friends, but after all, you can never shake off your Chinese identity. 2nd and 3rd generation Asians still struggle with identity issues, and you my friend, it is better to embrace your Chinese heritage than trying to fully abandon it.
Don't get me wrong, I truely admire everything you have achieved and I believe you have put in lots of hard work to be where you are today. I was once like you until I started working with some truely successful people, if you mind is closed, you will not go far. If you can't even accept who you are and where you came from, then you won't get true respect from anybody, not from the Chinese community and certainly not from the "mainstream" community.
I speak English and Chinese, and I live in Australia, I have no problem switching from my Aussie identity to my Chinese identity, depends on the circumstance and what serves me best.
Rather than discriminate against your own heritage, why don't you dedicate yourself to improve the image of the Chinese people by obeying rules and be respectful to others, and make your Chinese background serve you rather than working against you. |
