Ten minutes' walk along Collin St, Melbourne
Yes, Collin St is in Melbourne city, and it is for the biz trip last week, when I walk from hotel to office in the morning:
It surprised myself, that it was the first time after living in australia for more than 2 years and a half, did I first time to stay a night in a city, that was for a business trip in Melbourne.
It was a narrow street when I got out of the hotel building, yes, all streets will be followed by a little xxx street in Melbourne, this can go back to the interesting history of this city, and when talking about history, this collin st would certainly bear great testimony.
So I am always fascinated by the sacred churches when I pass by those gothic style buildings. I tend to link with those stone buildings with dark sky and clouds, but amazingly, in such a sunny morning, the golden colour really warms your heart, so tenderly that I didn't notice I slowed down, and all the people are passing me in both sides.
Yes I did noticed that there were far more people around me than that was in Adelaide, especially when I reached the cross where I can see the grand building of railway station in Flinders St, it's just so huge and clam, looking at the busy crowds like a whale looking at the small fishes. crossing the road I stopped a second and was trying to imagine that, nearly 100 years ago, this giant building, with all his friends along this street, they might looked exactly the same, but with different people, cars would be carriages..
Also, the tram reminds me the past. the 'ding' of trams' bells sounds so gentle comparing to the horns, and even the noise generated from the rails can offer a cordial feeling. There are nice shops along the streets in the beautiful Victorian style buildings, the rococo decorations, the curves.. everything perfumes the surroundings with a scent of elegance, that is good enough for me the ignore the terrible noise from the road work.
And I walked through the last cross to office, shops' gone, banks came. Granite buildings, phoenix trees, yellow leaves.. no wonder people say that Melbourne is the most European like city in OZ. Grabbed a cup of coffee, it still tastes as good as in Adelaide, if not better. But the thing annoyed me is that, noone seemed to be lazy enough to even have the coffee in a mug and sit down, it's always been carried in paper cups, and disappeared in the crowds soon, so did I, finished that 10 minutes' walk along Collin st and back to the reality. |
