Race to find stricken alps bushwalker

UPDATE Police have found a bushwalker who ho activated his distress beacon in Victoria's alpine region yesterday.
Police this morning said they found the man safe and well at 8.13am and he was walking out with them.
The 30-year-old Alphington man was hiking the Alpine Walking Track, linking Baw Baw National Park in Victoria to Canberra, when he got into trouble at Mt Shillinglaw, about 60 kilometres south of Mansfield, at 1pm yesterday.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the man was carrying an emergency position indicating radio beacon (EPIRB), which he activated.
However police had no way of communicating directly with him, and it was unclear whether he was injured, hiking on his own or whether he had equipment suitable for the freezing conditions.
Temperatures dropped below zero on Mount Shillinglaw this morning, with snow showers in the area.
The spokeswoman said police had to pinpoint the EPIRB signal, before a team of search-and-rescue officers, alpine police and State Emergency Service workers began hiking into the rugged terrain east of Jamieson Licola Road yesterday.
They hiked throughout the night, but were forced to camp for the night. They reached the man about half an hour after resuming the search this morning.
