The average Australian woman is a size 14, but "real women" have been largely absent from the runway or in magazines — until now.
The gorgeous 21-year-old Australian plus-size model Robyn Lawley struggled to find work six years ago, but with catwalks and magazines embracing curves in a big way, Robyn is now booked solid.
"The general public love seeing our girls in the magazines and their favourite fashion catalogues," says her agent, Chelsea Bonner of Bella Model Management. "They really identify with the girls."
On being a plus-size model, Robyn told TODAY, "When I gained some weight and started doing plus-size modeling I just felt so much more at ease and happy and confident with myself, which was a real surprise.
"I thought it would be the absolute opposite, but I actually got a lot more happier," she said.
A growing number of international designers, including Prada, Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Dolce & Gabbana are sending plus-sized models down the runway — could this shift in the fashion industry be here to stay?
