11. The development of science and technology benefit our life. However, scientists cannot find effective solutions to the problems they created. To what degree do you agree or disagree with this opinion?


Science and technology are advancing at a staggering rate in present-day society. They make our lives comfortable and convenient. Meanwhile, the side effects they bring to us are also overwhelming. Therefore, some people worry about that there are no effective ways to address the problem they created. Personally, I think their worries are unnecessary.

It is general known that the very purpose of science and technology is to make people’s lives better. Thanks to the efforts of scientist, people now enjoy wonderful lives. The examples are endless. The development of air transportation enables us to go any places in the world we want. And the advance in medical science makes people suffer less from disease. Also, there are plenty of household appliances such as electric cooker, microwave oven and dish washer, which make people get away from household chores.

On the other hand, there are negative concerns about the development of science and technology. One of the biggest problems is security. A good example of this is the nuclear power plant accident happened in Japan after earthquake in 2011, which caused destructive disaster to human beings and the natural environment. However, I am deeply convinced that so long as we develop more high-technologies and strength security measures, the tragedy would never happen.

To sum up, although the development of science and technology has negative effects, I believe the problems can be solved only by advancing them. In this way, people can enjoy more convenience and comfort of their lives, and human can keep on development.
