Title: Ground Person

Reports to: Team Leader, Operations Manager.

Based at: Exeter or Bristol

Job purpose:
To act as a team member within a Cutting Team with the primary responsibility of
assisting Climbers and the Team Leader in the performance of all aspects of any given
job.

Key responsibilities:
•  Performs all required ground based and lift platform duties in support of specific
jobs as directed by the Team Leader or designated supervisor:
o  Maintains Health and Safety awareness and participates in job specific
H&S Briefings.
o  Utilises all relevant Personal Protective Eqiupment (PPE)
o  Assists in the safe deployment of work area safety measures including
appropriate placement of cones, signage etc
o  Uses and maintains vehicles, lift platforms, chippers, chainsaws, hand
saws and other arboricultural hand tools in accordance with industry
safe practice.
o  Assists in ensuring Risk Assessments are carried out and understood
prior to any cutting.
o  Assists Climbers and Team Leaders working on the ground and aloft.
o  Assists with driving, backing, dumping and parking duties (where
applicable)
o  Learns and understands the dangers associated with electrical hazards
•  Reports for duty at the yard or designated location on time each day.
•  Completes paperwork accurately, diligently, and submits these on time –
including timesheets, any vehicle sheets and other documents as applicable.
•  Follows directions from the Team Leader, designated supervisor or Operations
Manager as appropriate.
•  Learns, understands and adheres to all industry safety rules and Hi-Line’s H&S
Policy.
•  Actively participates in all company safety training sessions; asking questions
and contributing ideas.
•  Communicates effectively with other Cutting Team members and the Team
Leader.
•  Continually improve personal skills and knowledge.
•  Carry out any other duties as requested from time to time by the Team Leader,
designated supervisor or Operations Manager.



Qualifications/Experience/Attributes:
•  Relevant NPTC Certification (or equivalent) – min Basic Chainsaw
•  Driving Licence - preferred
•  Trailer Towing Licence (if Driving Licence not pre-1997) **
•  Signing, Lighting & Guarding (Chapter 8) Certification **
•  Experience of working in a Tree Cutting team – preferred.
•  Experience in using Lift Platforms **
•  Positive attitude
•  Good team player
•  Willingness to learn and self-develop
