THE ANSWERS TO THE FIRST WEEK IDIOMS

far-fetched: unbelievable
pulling one's leg: making a joke by lying to somebody, and pretending the lie is true
all of a sudden: right away without warning
due east: exactly east of someplace
a dime a dozen: very common
it's a given:there is no doubt
totally: definitely

it dawn on me: I remember; I realize

a while: a long time
Haven't seen you for a while.

cut out: no longer is able to be seen
The television station cut out during the big rain storm.

rundown: information
I just wanted to get a rundown on what happened.

weed through: to look or dig through
I had to weed through a lot of papers when I did my yearly income taxes for the government.

I'll tell you what: that is for sure
I'll tell you what, I really enjoyed reading this book.

Have a blast: enjoy
Get the first butterflies out of one’s stomach: get used to sth for the first time
Have butterflies in one’s stomach: to be nervous
Time of one’s life: a really good time
Be psyched: be excited
To get the hang of: to become better at
Chill out: relax
Low key: relaxing
To let go: to relax
If for no other reason: if nothing else make you do sth
Be tickled pink: be very happy

Time escaped me: I don’t realize how late it had become

These are from self-learning materials. Since I received some warm responses, I posted the idoms as I am learning. Hope these would be helpful to some of you.

You may double check the interpretations of the idoms. I am still learning. You are more than welcome to correct the mistakes. Thank you for your interest in these idoms.

How do you guys learn idoms?

Thanks for those of you who support this topic. I will post more idoms as I am learning. Please let me know if you find any inaccurate interpretations.

Since I am not majored in English, I am always having butterflies in my stomach when I using English. I just curious about how you guys, especially the English majors,learn idoms and slangs.

All comments are welcome.
