When to claim
Submit your claim for Baby Bonus with the Family Assistance Office as soon as possible, so that you can be paid from the earliest possible date.
You need to claim Baby Bonus within 52 weeks of the birth of the child or in the case of adoption, within 52 weeks of the date the child came into your care.
If you are claiming for a child who entered your care before 1 January 2009, you will need to claim Baby Bonus within 26 weeks of the birth of the child, or in the case of adoption, within 26 weeks of the date the child came into your care or entered Australia for adoption from overseas.

Can I get the Baby Bonus?
To be eligible for Baby Bonus you must:
be the parent of a dependent child; or
be a carer other than the parent of a newborn child within 26 weeks of the child's birth and be likely to continue to have the care of the child for no less than 26 weeks; or
in the case of adoption the child must have come into your care before the child is sixteen years of age; and
have adjusted taxable income of less than or equal to $75,000* for the period of 6 months from the date of birth of the child or six months from the date that the child entered into your care; and
meet Australian residency requirements for family assistance purposes.
*Note: This income limit will next be subject to indexation on 1 July 2012
Budget announcement for Changes to family assistance
Parents are required to formally register the birth of their child as a condition of receiving the Baby Bonus. This requirement does not apply to parents whose child is stillborn, adopted or born outside Australia.
How do I get the Baby Bonus?
Your claim must be lodged within 52 weeks of the child's birth or, in the case of adoption, within 52 weeks of the adopted child coming into the adopting parent's care.

我于是又傻呆呆的等了将近10分钟（想着国际长途哗哗的，简直是度日如年啊，又不敢挂），最后她终于回来了，对我说：应该是52周前，不过最后她补充了一句，让我彻底崩溃：她也不确定，她说她只是一个客服人员，建议我去申请一个试试运气，结尾还狂笑。。。我那叫一个汗啊，最后花了100多元，也没听出个所以然。早就听说澳洲人心态好，什么事情都不较真，不过这姐姐怎么说也是个客服人员，咋就那啥。。。哈
）？他愣了一会，可能也觉得说不太清楚，于是乎又打了一通电话，最后跟我说：对不起，可能是我们算错了，我们会重新评估一下，大概2周后会出结果。我说我今天晚上就坐飞机回国了，能不能有了结果后给我发email而不是纸质邮件，这样我就能及时获知最新情况了。他说：为什么你才待了2周就要回去，这样的话申请的baby bonus和牛奶金不一定会按之前批的金额给了。我一想，这不白忙活了嘛！？于是耐心的跟他解释：我是有原因的，一：我这次来短登已经买了房子，准备长期在悉尼生活，这次回去是为了办理辞职手续，二：我的小孩还有最后一针乙肝疫苗需要在中国打完再过来交接继续打后续疫苗。另外，我事前知道如果出境时间超过3个月，牛奶金就会停发，于是跟他说：我大概2个月后会回来。他又表情严肃的打了一通电话，我问他：Is everything OK? 他说：Hopefully.我这一颗悬着的心才落了地。后来，老大爷说已经给我改了centrelink的用户权限，今后可以在线查看状态了。我于是向他表示了谢意。至此，这次短登的任务终于算是基本完成了。
