根据上述连接,说明高水平的software engineer移民到新西兰很少,大多数是和我的工作没有任何竞争的人来移民

The Chinese community in NZ grows very quick.

I recall that at the time I moved to my street 2000, there was very few chinese people there. There are lots of chinese people on my street.

The house price on my street tripled and lots of european moved out to get the money by selling the house. I bought my house 2000 at auction for nzd233,000 and now around at 1 million dollars Of course, I cannot sell the house as we only have one house.

Auckland has genuinely been the paradise for property speculators (along with Vancouver across the world), while Australia has banned foreigner buyers, it's still allowed in NZ, as a result, owners like DD888 are confidently looking forward to the double price of houses again during the lifetime.

That's incomparable, China falls in the category along with India/Vietnam, which you'd realize when seeing the housing/income ratio worldwide ranking.

But not most Aucklanders are like you (if so, bubble wouldn't exist). You can find a report in NZ herald saying "according to stats, Aucklanders on average earn more from home than work".

Indeed almost every Chinese migrant I know in Auckland has at least 2~3 houses, which is the reason why the prices once outstripped Sydney and I have to leave.

So many ways are there if you dream of a life without working.

But I enjoy working, not just because of the money, or I would apply for unemployment benefits.

Let's be clear:

at the moment, average price in Auckland is $960K, and median income is $50k or $30k (not so sure, as the way of statistic tends to be controversial, but anyway should be <=50K),

Give that a person has to pay the cost of living everyday (many goods in NZ are more expensive than that in Australia, including the gas), tell me how many years it takes?

Then think about yourself, how "fair" it is?

The one should be criticized is the policy maker, not you, who is just a player.  Or should we say American people are less interested in property speculation due to their integrity?

Why not?

I met a gentleman in swimming pool two weeks ago, whose age around 70 years old and was a construction engineer in Shanghai. He told me that he bought a place for around 2 million chinese yuan 2003 and sold it for 8 million chinese yuan 2015 in Shanghai. He used money to buy a house in Hillcrest, NorthShore. He told me that was not a big deal for him to buy a house in north shore. :-)

He told me he earned 7,000 chinese yuan each month 1997 which was the year I left China. At that time I earned around 2,000 chinese yuan each month in Shanghai.

Thanks

My family need a place to live in 2000 since I switched a job and increased salary from nzd30,000 to nzd60,000 per year after working in nz for about a year. That was a good experience to switch job. It was not a big deal for me to buy a house at nzd233,000 for salary nzd60,000 If I donot spend any money, I can pay off the house in 4 years. Of course, everything cost money in nz. Thus the payoff time took around 8 years which I consider a great achievement for myself.

That's true, however if working at home, you miss the chance of real social activity, especially within a team. Overtime, you would inadvertently be more attached to your family. By contrast, through years of teamwork I don't feel family is such fun or important, so does the private treasure. Believe it or not, participating teamwork would facilitate your wisdom/enlightenment, ultimately realizing the sense of Zen.

Along with some other social scientist, I discourage working from home.

You words make me feel like that, first, it sounds like my wife, who is an typical, unenlightened Chinese, and who takes family life/private treasure the most, thus suffering.

Secondly I already found not few App programmers nowadays working from home like you, in the recent 2 firms I've worked, those App programmers were always contracted working from home, unlike us hardware/firmware engineers need to work with equipment in office. I reckon the former lost a lot in the life. Some scholars already addressed the psychologically negative impacts from such work style.

You can be as confident, as my wife, which however doesn't change the fact you are suffering... never acknowledge, but it does happen. As a result I'm always happier than my wife~~
