Everything in Australia is trying to kill you. We all know that. Australians drink a lot of beer, this is how we stay alive. Everyone knows that.
What foreigners seldom realise about Australian beer is not that we don't drink Fosters (we don't - everyone knows that); it's that in trying to order a beer in Australia, one might end up dead. From confusion.
When ordering a beer, you might ask for a Pint. Which is 568ml in New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and Tasmania, but a Pint in South Australia is only 425ml, and Queenslanders don't serve them at all.
In Queensland, if you want what is called a Pint in SA, you'll get a Schooner, which is what it's called everywhere, except Tasmania, where they don't have it.
A Schooner in South Australia is 285ml, but this is called a Middy in NSW and WA, a Pot in Vic , Tas and QLD, or a Handle in NT.
If you order a Glass of beer in QLD, you get 225ml (but this is called an Eight in Tas, and not available anywhere else. A Glass is only 200ml in Victoria and WA, but it's called a Seven in NSW and NT, but a Butcher in SA.
You can order a small beer in Vic, which is 170ml, but that is called a Bobbie in WA and just a "beer" in Tasmania. A small beer in Queensland is only 140ml, but it's called a pony everywhere else, except for the Northern Territory who don't have that size, and Tasmania, who call a small beer 115ml, which is called a "Shetland pony" in WA.
Confused yet??
Just order a Jug. a Jug is 1140ml (40oz) in every state, and it's a fairly good size for a glass of beer. Also, you look really classy drinking from one.
