Why gedit on ubuntu sometimes crash?

I am running Ubuntu 14.10

Sometimes my gedit just crash. I cannot believe it. Notepad running on windows 7 is solid stable. I thought reliable is the feature of linux.

in vi
If I press i to get in insert mode
I press return key to insert a new line,
I press ctrl-s,then whole vi frozen, no way to get out to normal

I used to ctrl-s in windows

I doubt this is hardware related, it can be recreated everytime.

I put stty -ixon in .bashrc and press ctrl-s does not frozen my vi anymore
