Describing Someone’s Face

Daily Life - Describing Someone’s Face (C0261)
A: Let’s play a game!
B: Ok! How about Scrabble
A: No no, a friend of mine taught me this really fun
game. I’m going to describe someone’s face, and
you guess who it is!
B: Ok!
A: Let’s see. He has a roman nose, bushy eyebrows
and dimples酒涡!
B: Our cousin Pete! My turn! She has a pointy nose
sunken eyes 凹陷的眼睛 and a mole on her chin下巴上有个痣!
A: Aunt Rose! That mole is so huge! Ok, my turn.
He has a crooked nose歪鼻子 and full lips厚嘴唇. He has quite
a few freckles雀斑 and an oval face. Oh, he is also
bald秃头!
B: Your future husband!
A: Not funny.

One day, a lady told me right before lunch that she felt squeamish. I couldn't figure out what on earth squeamish meant.

While I was struggling searching my mind vocabularies, she started gagging, appeared about to vomit. I quickly grabbed vomit-bag, grabbed anti-emetics and successfully ceased a vomiting incident.

After she settled down and enjoyed her lunch, I asked her: Are you up for something funny?
Patient: By all means!
Me: Just now, when you said you felt squeamish, I couldn't sort out what that meant. But thanks to my talent and experiences (嘿嘿,我逗她玩儿呢,这种现象是不需要任何智慧跟经验来辨别出来的), I am very good at picking up body language. Just from your physical struggling, I figured that must be something to do with being sick. Otherwise, this yummy lunch would have been in your dream, if I didn't know what I could be doing to help you out.
Patient: Haahaa

PS: I don't think I have to be bothered to put chinese on the word "Squeamish", as smart as you guys, this word will be figured out in no time.

Now, I would like to share a joke regarding Asian parents' mentality on their children's academic performance
A father and a son were on the way to the hospital to pick up the result of the son's blood type. The father was trying to make a nice conversation with the son, because he realized he had been quite short with (动不动就跟...发脾气/爆粗) his son recently by focusing on only his study.
Father: Hey, talk to daddy, son. What's new with you (最近有啥新动向吗?

The son struggled for a little while, not knowing what his father's best interest resides in (存在于) now, because his academic excellence (学术优异) has always dominated (主宰着) their father-and-son talks. But now, all of sudden, his father asked about something new. Then he figured the sports was something he just took on board recently and decided to go with it (顺着这个进行) starting the conversation.

Son: Well, I started playing table tennis recently, I have been doing great, winning so many matches in school.
Father: That's Ok, son. Now, talk about something else that's happened in school.
The father was only keen to be informed of the academic achievement, but he didn't want to ask that directly, hoping the son would drop the idea (不再认为) "Daddy is only interested in academic performance."

Son hesitated for a few minutes, and then brought up the bullies he had been through recently in a bid to (期望能够) win his father's attention on it: I got beaten up by some boys in school, they were calling me names (给我起外号)--Nerd, wonk 死读书的人, geek...
Father: Oh, come on, son. You are a big boy now, you should have known how to handle all of that, I don't wanna to hear you whinging about this (抱怨某事). (Just a little heads-up 一点小提醒, everyone, school-bully should never be something you would turn blind eyes to 对某事装看不见, 莫不关心). Switch to (转换到) something else, such as exams, study...
Son fought back his tears: Yeah, I got an A in physics.
Father: Not bad, son! What about the math?
Son: Got another A.
Father: Hmmmm, not too bad, son. But, you could do a lot better Chemistry?
Son: A plus.
Father: Well done, son. I can treat you a nice dinner (请你吃晚宴) tonight. English?
Son: B plus.
Father's eyes became wide open: B plus? How could you get a B plus? No more chance for you, you die

Son got scared and his sparkling eyes (From the possible yummy dinner) turned dark. Then, they got to the main entrance to the hospital. The son went to fetch the result leaving the father in the car.

As soon as the son showed up, the father asked the son in an angry tone: What is your blood type?
Son responded with a panic tone: B positive, daddy.
Father went into a rage: What? Another B plus? What's wrong with you exactly? Just wait, when we get home, I'll whip a bitch

Hope this will keep you good company over the weekend! By the way, this joke credit goes to my lovely daughter!

Happy New Year 新年快乐

Global View - Happy New Year! (C0340)
A:: It’s almost midnight! We are about to start a brand
new year!
B: I know it’s so exciting! A new year is always like a
A:: fresh start to accomplish实现 any dreams, objectives
and goals.
A: Do you have a New Year’s resolution
B: I was thinking about it, but I’m never able to keep
my New Year’s resolution. Last year for example I
joined a gym and only went twice.
A: Yeah I know what you mean. That’s why this year
I am keeping things more simple. Maybe like getting
together with friends I haven’t seen in a long
time, or doing some volunteering work.
B: That seems reasonable. We should get together
and watch the ball drop in Times Square.
A: Sure, as long as you don’t try to kiss me at midnight!
B: Well, we can’t break tradition! It’s bad luck!

Good day, guys!
Something lighter to add a little extra joy to your day.

One day, a ward support staff and I were escorting an Italian speaking lady somewhere else for checkups. On the way over, she was trying to tell us something, of course, we couldn't  understand.

I looked at the other staff seeking help: Peter, by any chance, you know what she is talking about?
Peter: well, I speak five languages fluently, but unfortunately, the language she speaks is by no means one of them.

The patient understood our struggling, so, she just shrugged it off meaning that was nothing important.

(By the way, there are various interpreting services in place in public hospitals, accessible to the patients for their care needs).

After we dropped her off, I said to Peter: Five fluent languages, wow! That's quite impressive. What are they, I wonder?
Peter: oh, that's nothing much to brag about--Australian, American, Canadian, Britain and New Zealand.
Me: Get lost, Peter.

Got startled when I found out my credits in FreeOz were sitting at 6444, I became a little bit obsessed with it, for fear that I wouldn't be able to wake up again (Lol).

I hold my superstitious chinese culture to blame, because my mentality was so stuffed up by the number 444, I was held fast to my belief (中国文化让我坚信) that 4 means something unwanted . To save me from nothing, I will contribute one more joke right before bedtime, to bring my credits out of the number 444 (This sounds compulsory, doesn't it?). Then, I will have a sweat dream.

By the way, the following joke is ethnic sensitive, please don't take it the wrong way.

An African-American comedian was telling the crowd: Being a black wasn't all bad in every sense, even though sometimes black people suffered more economic disadvantages, higher illiterate rates, and so on. But in his whole life being black, his family was never worried about him being kidnapped.

Even if he was kidnapped, his mother would deal with the kidnapper much differently from white women.
Usually, after white kid was taken away, the family would get the heavy police force involved straight away. When the kidnapper called, the mother would grab the phone at the first ring tone, crying and begging the other party not to hurt the victim. No matter how much ransom was demanded, they always said they would work on it, but they needed guarantee their kid wouldn't get hurt.

However, the black kid's mom would continue her routines, believing her son would be strong enough to pull himself out of ordeal mysteriously. When the phone rang, she would take her time to pick it up.

As soon as the kidnapper asked for ransom, the mom would yell at the kidnapper over the phone: What do you think you are doing, you idiot! Don't you dare to hurt my son! No matter how much you want, I couldn't afford it. If you still insist it, can you put my son on the phone, just let me say GoodBye to him.

Hey, you all! How's your day been?

The following joke is an english version of a chinese mobile message that circulated wildly years ago. Now, I would like to have a go at it (试一试) telling it in english. Hope I can bring out the chinese essence in it, please feed back to me if you don't enjoy it.

Three rats got together bragging about how super a rat they are, and how capable they are to survive human's killing techniques.

Rat A started the conversation first: I have been feeling extremely bored recently. All day long, I just find nothing better to do but indulge in (猛吃海喝) the rat poisons. But, guess what, I enjoyed so much that I just add them to my regular menu now.

Rat B: Nah, I can't believe you think so big of yourself (觉得自己很牛) by doing just that, that's nothing compared with what I do. Nowadays, I started jumping onto the rat traps 老鼠夹子 and found myself always come out brisk and dandy (轻松愉快). Actually, I am considering turning the trap-jumping into my gym routine from now on.

While they are busy blowing their own horns 吹嘘自己, a cat passes by, tugging herself along (拖着自己艰难地走) with the huge tummy, apparently she is nearly due for her babies.

Rat C put on a huge smile, pointing at the cat: Hey, look at that, I did it (爷干的).
