Rossmoyne Senior High has cemented its reputation as WA's flagship public school by having more students in the top one per cent of last year's TEE achievers than any other school in the State.

The Education Department said 27 Rossmoyne students - or 11 per cent of those who sat exams - achieved a tertiary entrance rank of 99 or above, earning them places in its exclusive "99 club".

They were among the top-ranked students out of more than12,000 from public and private schools who sat exams in four or more subjects last year.
The department said it was one of the best performances in the past few years. Rossmoyne had 21 students in the 99 club in 2008 and 25 in 2007.

Hale School, a private school which regularly produces some of WA's top performers, had 19 students, or 10 per cent, achieve 99 plus.
Rossmoyne can also boast two students who were among just 15 in the State to attain the highest possible rank of 99.95.

Ruwani Rajapaksa and Saksham Gupta said they did not believe it when they first saw their ranking.
"I screamed and ran around the house," Ruwani said.

The two students, who both hope to study medicine, took applicable maths, physics, chemistry and calculus. Ruwani also did English literature and French, while Saksham took English and human biology.
They were members of Rossmoyne's gifted and talented program and said their teachers had played a big part in their success.

Acting principal Terry Sanbrook said the school had expected to get about 20 students over the line, so 27 was a surprise.
He attributed Rossmoyne's success to its dedicated students and teachers who knew the courses.

"The whole ethos of the school is built around academic success and I think that culture is inculcated into the kids," he said.@springoz

When the Flynn family moved south from Port Hedland there was only one place they wanted to live - Rossmoyne.
Not to enjoy the riverside suburb's views or proximity to the CBD, but because they wanted to give their children the best education they could provide.
Mother Lisa Flynn said the decision of where to send her three kids was a no-brainer after hearing about Rossmoyne Senior High School's excellent reputation.
School zoning is at the top of every real estate agent's list in the coveted "Rossmoyne Senior High zone", where agents say homes sell faster and at a premium.
Rossmoyne SHS again had more students in the top one per cent of this year's Australian Tertiary Admission Rank scores than any other public school in WA.
An impressive 24 students from the government high school obtained a rank of 99 or higher, with one of its brightest minds among three public school students who achieved the highest possible ATAR of 99.95.
Local estate agents tell tales of families renting out their homes in affluent beachside and inner-city suburbs to live within the school's boundaries for five years while their children attend high school.
Rossmoyne SHS associate principal Peter Klifunis said anecdotal evidence told him many families moved within the school's boundaries, which included Rossmoyne, Shelley, Bateman, Brentwood and parts of Bull Creek, Willetton and Riverton, to get their children into the school because it consistently produced excellent results.
"The excellence has been there for many years so they are quite confident of the school's future," he said. "We have heard there is a bit of a premium if you are in the Rossmoyne High zone - some say 10 per cent." . John Hayes and Son licensee Sarah Morgan said Rossmoyne SHS-zoned properties obtained a better price in the current market, as the saleability of such properties was "unquestionable".
"A lot of migrants will simply go down the list of top government schools and go straight to those school zones, even if they know nothing else about Perth," she said.
Pulse Riverside Realty director Jared Rayner said in suburbs split by the school's boundary, such as Bull Creek, house prices varied based on whether or not they were within the school's boundaries.

A RECORD number of public school students have finished Year 12 in the top one per cent in the state.

The Education Department announced today that 114 students - up from 100 last year - earned a place in the exclusive "'99 Club" this week, meaning they achieved an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank of more than 99 in their WA Certificate of Education exams.

The greatest number of students attended Rossmoyne Senior High School (24), followed by Perth Modern School (18) and Willetton Senior High School (15).

The development comes one day after it was revealed that three public school students - Arash Arabshahi from Cyril Jackson Senior Campus, Norris Lan from Rossmoyne Senior High School and Marisa Duong from Kalamunda Senior High School - achieved the highest possible ATAR of 99.95.

The Schools of Isolated and Distance Education and regional schools Australind Senior High School, Bunbury Senior High School, Denmark High School, Esperance Senior High School, and Newton Moore Senior High School each had at least one student in the exclusive '99 Club.

Education Department director-general Sharyn O’Neill congratulated the students on their results.

“Our schools and teachers provide amazing support and opportunities for all students to achieve their potential,” Ms O’Neill said.

"Students have also been backed by their families who support them in their education, especially the challenges of Year 12.

“I wish every 2011 public school graduate the best for their future study and careers, as they follow ambitions in fields as diverse as astrophysics and zoology.

“Results like these don’t happen by accident – they are a deserved reward for the hard work, drive and dedication of the students and their teachers in our schools.”

From: https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewes ... l-winner-announced/

WA’s top academic student for 2012 is St Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls student Katie Dyer.
The Claremont teen has won the Beazley medal for achieving the best all-round results in last year’s WA Certificate of Education exams.
A full list of all the exhibition and award winners from every school will be published in The Weekend West tomorrow.
Katie, 17, was the top-ranked general exhibition winner based on her results across five subjects, including two each from the humanities and maths and science areas.
She also won course exhibitions for topping the State in chemistry and French and five certificates of distinction in chemistry, French, maths, specialist maths and physics.
But she was unable to make it to the medal presentation today because she was on a family holiday to Europe, where she hopes to try out her French speaking skills.
Katie, who also took literature and music, said specialist maths was her favourite subject.
She achieved the highest possible tertiary admission rank of 99.95 and is still deciding whether to study science at Melbourne University or a bachelor of philosophy at the University of WA.
The State’s top vocational and education training student was Madisen Scott, 17, from Woodvale Secondary College.
It was the second year in a row that Woodvale produced the top VET student.
As well as achieving a VET certificate II in sport and recreation, Madisen also completed a full load of five stage three courses while attending the school on a basketball scholarship.
She studied literature, maths, media production and analysis, politics and law and psychology, scoring an outstanding admission rank of 97.25. She plans to study law and management at university this year.
The School Curriculum and Standards Authority said the school with the highest number of award winners was Perth Modern, with 65 students taking out 99 awards, followed by Rossmoyne and Churchlands Senior High Schools.
