Show the prospective employer that you have the skills, experience, ability and personal qualities to do the job in offer and that you can successfully fit into the organisation and its work culture.
Interviewers are seeking the answers to 3 absolutely fundamental questions:

1.Can you do the job?  Do you have the qualifications, skills  and/or experience to do the job?

2.Will you do the job? Do you have the motivation, attitudes and career goals.

3.Will you fit in? Are you a cultural match to the organisation.

Preparation

Research the company and the position

Analyse the skills, duties and responsibilities associated with the position

List the skills, strengths, attributes and experience required by the specific position and be prepared to speak about them confidently;

Prepare personal examples to illustrate your claims

Practice

Practice out loud answers to questions you think you might be asked during the interview

Ask someone to interview you for practice - ask for their honest feedback

Watch yourself, your body language while practicing

Presentation

Dress and groom yourself well

Appear confident and prepared

Take a copy of your written application and evidence of qualifications and certificates of courses that you have completed

Compile this information into a binder that you can re-use

What do I take to an interview?

• Job advertisement

• Duty Statement / Position Description

• Hard copy of your job application

• Copy of your resume

• Academic transcripts

• Examples of your work

• Info about the organisation

• Prepared questions/answers

• Location details

• Names of the interviewers if available

• Anything else requested by the interviewer
e.g. identification, vaccination information,
  completed forms, criminal history check, blue card.

Add one more point: BE CONFIDENT!
Tell urself: I am the most suitable person to fit the pos!
In conversation: Look into the interview's eyes instead of the face!

This is what i can remember from the subject called TCS (Technical Communication Skills) quite years back when i was schooling.
