词汇是学习英语的基础,我曾经有个比喻,有了大的词汇量就好像学武功的人内力深厚,练任何招式都会变得比较容易。

试想如果一个句子里面就有2,3个单词你根本不认识,你怎么可能看得懂呢?更不可能听得懂了吧?

我开这个帖子,主要是为了自己的单词学习,也希望有人来一起背单词。

争取每天至少增加一个单词。这些单词都是我看英文的书籍,杂志或者网站等等碰到的。个人比较不喜欢机械的背单词方式。

每天哪怕只记一个单词,一年就可以增加365个单词词汇量。贵在坚持,加油!

Point-blank

1. If you say something point-blank, you say it very directly, without explaining or apologizing.

- I asked him point-blank why he was doing it.

2. If someone or something is shot point-blank or at point-blank range, they are shot by a gun which is held extremely close to them.

Stammer

If someone stammers, or if they have a stammer, they speak with difficulty, hesitating and repeating words or sounds.

- He turned white and began to stammer.

Slump

1. If there is a slump of something such as the value of something, of if it slumps, it falls suddenly and by a large amount.
- ... a slump in property prices ...
- Net profits slumped by 41%.


2. A slump is a time when there is a lot of unemployment and poverty.

3. If you slump somewhere, you fall or sit down there heavily.
- She slumped into a chair.

Dab

1. If you dab something, you touch it several times using quick light movements.
- She dabbed indine on the cuts...
- He dabbed at his lips with the napkin.

2. A dab of something is a small amount of it that is put onto a surface.
- ... a dab of glue.

Mortar

1. A mortar is a short cannon which fires shells high into the sky for a short distance.

我用谷歌金山词霸单词本,看到不懂的单词直接加入生词本,隔三岔五复习下。

whinge

If you say someone is whingeing or having a whinge, you mean that they are complaining in an annoying way about something unimportant.
- ...listening to everybody's whinges.

这里有个补充,澳洲人有时候会开玩笑叫英国人whingeing poms,是有点offensive的叫法,英国人对这个比较敏感。听得懂就行了,不要乱说。

flounder

1. If something is floundering, it has many problems and may soon fail completely.
- What a pity that his career was left to flounder.

2. If someone is floundering, they do not know what to do or say.
- I was floundering. I worked in a number of jobs. I had no direction in my life.

- Almost half the population are eligible to vote.

wince

smoulder
