You've bought the counterfeit Rolex and imitation Louis Vuitton bag, but do you own a fake Mini?

If you want the latest in fine automotive forgeries, there's no need to loiter on city streets or lurk behind the back of a truck; just head for the Chinese - rather than the black - market.

The recent Shanghai motor show proved that while China may now be serious business for global car brands, the local makers in the world's biggest new-car market continue to cause chuckles with their inventive unoriginality.

Pseudo-Minis and other motoring equivalents of Dolly the sheep could all be found under the one roof in Shanghai, giving DriveLife the chance to indulge in an entertaining game of Spot the Knock-off.

We're still not sure whether it's an intriguing form of Chinese humour, but the name of the best Mini-mimicker on display - the Emgrand EC6-RV - even seemed to make a mispronounced nod to the car's country of origin.
