[size=1.2em]A LOCALLY made ad that became a YouTube sensation could play a role in the US elections after same-sex marriage supporters launched a campaign to get it on TV.
[size=1.2em]US group It's Time/Marriage Equality has permission to use the GetUp! ad, ''It's Time'', seen by more than 6.5 million people since it was put up on YouTube in November.
[size=1.2em]Marriage Equality has partnered with a fund-raising platform called Social Teeth and is campaigning to raise a minimum of $50,000 to get an edited version of the ad onto American TV in the lead-up to the November election. The group is working with global media buying group Aegis and hopes to screen the ad on US networks, including ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and Fox News.
[size=1.2em]Daniel Wein, executive director of It's Time/Marriage Equality, said the goal was to tap into growing support for the issue. Barack Obama earlier this year became the first US president to publicly support gay marriage.

[size=1.2em]''It's Time got global exposure because it touched on the theme of loving commitment that is universal in all relationships. There's no doubt there's sufficient passion to get an ad like this onto the air in the US, it's just a matter of getting to the right people,'' Mr Wein said.
[size=1.2em]The group also intends to run the ad online, on Hulu and YouTube, as well as on the It's Time Marriage Equality Facebook page, which has close to 10,000 fans.
[size=1.2em]Mr Wein, who is in Sydney as an exchange student, said after the ad aired in the US the group planned to continue the campaign with ads featuring real couples.
