We are going to Mt Victoria, The most western village in the Blue Mountains. Many of local walks are full of story, with several tracks following the original roads that descended from the top of Blue Mountains down to Hartley Valley. Other walks tend to be local secrets (tucked away on council land, rather than in the National Park) and although poorly signposted, are fascinating historic tracks in their own right.
There will be three short tracks for this Sunday Aug 21, 2011.
1) Mt Piddington, Fairy Bower and Cox’s Cave: This local favourite includes a secret grotto, a forgotten etching in the romantic ‘Fairy Bower’, a precarious ladder up to Cox’s Cave and sheltered woodland gullies.
2) Little Zig Zag and Wilsons Glen: Thus beautiful old track features sweeping valley views, the romantic Bushranger’s Cave, mossy glens and secret patches of rainforest.
3) Victoria Falls: Although the return journey from Victoria Falls is rather grueling (a whopping 380 meters ascent), the waterfalls themselves are so beautiful that the trip is well worth it. There are actually two sets of falls close together – silver Cascades and then Victoria Falls proper. Depending on how much rain there’s been, both make good spots for swimming if you like in summer.
