SAME-SEX couples would find Prime Minister Julia Gillard's comment that a committed relationship doesn't require a marriage certificate hurtful, a marriage equality group said today.
同性婚姻的支持者对PM 吉拉德昨天针对同性婚姻的说法很不以为然:两个人在以前并不需要结婚!
Prime Minister Julia Gillard drew on her own relationship to defend her opposition to same-sex marriage on ABC TV last night.
昨晚ABC电台Q&A节目,吉拉德用她自己的同居关系为例,证明她反对同性婚姻的立场。
Ms Gillard is not married to her long-term partner Tim Mathieson, but says that doesn't mean they aren't in a committed relationship.
吉拉德和她男朋友已经同居很多年。
"I think you can have a relationship of love and commitment and trust and understanding that doesn't need a marriage certificate associated with it," Ms Gillard told Q&A.
"That's my life experience - so I'm speaking from that life experience."

Australian Marriage Equality national convener Alex Greenwich said Ms Gillard's comments would be viewed as hurtful by many same-sex couples.

Mr Greenwich said Australia is the only developed English-speaking country without a major party leader who supports marriage equality.

The AME and some clergy have also slammed an Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) video campaign that claims same-sex marriage may lead to polygamy, saying it is scaremongering.

Ms Gillard was responding to a question about her opposition to gay marriage from Sydney plumber and Vietnam veteran Geoff Thomas.
Mr Thomas, whose son Nathan is gay, in 2010 asked Opposition Leader Tony Abbott on national TV when he would overcome his ignorance and start treating homosexuals with the respect they deserved.
Mr Thomas asked Ms Gillard on Q and A to explain how a country which prided itself on freedom, equality and tolerance could deny same-sex couples the right to marry.
He said Ms Gillard was standing side-by-side with Mr Abbott and the "extremist" Australian Christian Lobby.

But the PM stressed Labor had amended federal laws to "equalise the treatment of same-sex couples" when it came to superannuation and social security benefits.
