Tunnel glitch banks traffic up kilometres
June 25, 2008SYDNEY'S M5 East tunnel has been closed because of an electrical fault with its safety computers, leaving traffic banked up for kilometres in each direction.
Technicians are now trying to fix the problem with the computers, which control safety systems in the motorway tunnel at Bexley North, in Sydney's south.
The New South Wales Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) has urged motorists to avoid the area as they try to fix the technical glitch.
All eastbound traffic has been diverted onto King Georges Road, while westbound traffic has been funneled onto General Holmes Drive, the RTA said.
