Devops:
Key Responsibilities:
1. Reporting to Manager, Digital Platforms & Services, the Dev Ops Engineer work within the online
team and with the IT teams, content and editorial teams to design, manage, implement and
maintain systems to exploit relationships between technology and content
2. Perform system administration and development duties to support the infrastructure, applications,
processes, hosting environments and supporting systems for SBS’s digital properties
3. Administration of a growing AWS environment and infrastructure
4. Ability to administer a LAMP stack, and tools and technologies such as Chef, Puppet, Solr,
Splunk, Memcached, New Relic
5. Build and deployment automation, managing and implementing CI/CD systems (Bamboo, Git,
BitBucket)
6. Introduction and implementation of appropriate new technology and solutions using best practice
methodologies, design and patterns
7. Work in a flexible, agile environment independently of, and with project teams, to deliver work on
time and on budget
8. Contributing to project specifications and solution design, specifically around monitoring, alerts,
deployment, security, scalability, backup, resilience, automation
9. Create strategies for the maintenance of existing properties, refactor and improve existing
deployments and systems. Reporting and documentation of systems, projects and processes as
required.
10. Support of critical environments outside of business hours when necessary

Selection Criteria
Criterion 1: Qualifications
5+ years experience of professional experience
Media experience or exposure preferred
Experience leading teams of developers, engineers
Criterion 2: Technical
Extensive knowledge of AWS product stack, technologies, techniques and platforms.
Proven experience with build and deployment automation, and creating and maintaining effective
CI/CD systems
Experience with tools such as New Relic, Splunk
Extensive understanding of digital media, social media, video, search
Experience and understanding of the software development lifecycle and supporting systems
Understanding and ability to explain modern approaches to software development, design
patterns, frameworks and programming concepts
Experience working with Drupal, Online Video Platforms and MAM systems a strong plus

Key Responsibilities:
1. Reporting to and working with the Manager Digital Platforms & Services, and working with the
Development Lead to develop websites and other digital properties to provided specifications on
time and on budget in an agile environment
2. Leading the front end development team and responsibility for decisions related to frontend
strategy, architecture, technology selection and implementation
3. Performing roles as required in an Agile/Scrum team (Product Owner, Scrum Master, team
member)
4. Research, discovery and implementation of cutting edge Javascript frameworks and tools to
support application development (React.js, Grunt, SASS, Angular, Ember etc.)
5. Constant protoyping and experimentation with the vision of providing the world class best user
experience
6. Implementation of project briefs and designs using the latest frontend technologies where
appropriate
7. Working with Drupal, including Drupal theming, Drupal site building and building stand alone front
ends
8. Establishing frontend architecture, development standards, process, practices and frameworks
9. Working with external vendors to promote adherence to specifications and standards and
establish working frameworks
10. Develop and improve the SBS core content and application delivery platforms, including white
labelled projects and in house frameworks
11. Undertaking development and maintenance tasks on existing properties to bring them up to
standards and promote cross browser compatibility
12. Create strategies for the efficient development and maintenance of SBS online properties, and
digital media platforms.
13. Working with other SBS departments such as design to produce cutting edge and implementable
user experiences
14. Contribute to a continuous process of information and skill-sharing within and outside of the online
department
15. Reporting and documentation as required.
Selection Criteria
Criterion 1: Qualifications
6+ year experience of professional web development
Media experience and/or a content technology focus preferred
Drupal experience is strong plus
Criterion 2: Technical
Extensive knowledge and 5+ years’ experience with HTML, Javascript, CSS
Strong experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, and familiarity with all the roles
Experience with Drupal and related technologies. PHP knowledge a strong plus
Experience of implementing Javascript technology (React.js, Grunt, SASS, Angular, Ember,
node.js)
Understanding of modern web concepts such as social media, video, search, APIs, caching,
scalability, personalisation, cloud services
Understanding software development lifecycle and supporting systems
Experience working with large CMS, VMS and MAM systems a strong plus
