The Weekend - Guns (C0260)

A: Hey Nick, what are you up to?

B: Not much, just heading over to the shooting
range（射击场）. You wanna come?

A: Seriously? You mean to fire a real weapon? I
don’t know man.

B: Yeah it will be fun! I have a 9mm pistol（手枪）that is
really easy to shoot. I also have a revolver（左轮手枪） that’s
really fun too! They have big targets at the range
that we could use to practice and improve your
aim.

A: Yeah that would be cool! Maybe I can also have
a try at other weapons like a machine gun（机关枪） or a
shotgun（猎枪）! Maybe even a rocket launcher（火箭发射器） or an anti
tank missile（反坦克导弹）! Or what about a flame thrower(喷火器）!

B: Whoa, take it easy there Rambo. Don’t get carried
away. These weapons are not toys, and you must
first learn how to handle them properly. There are
basic rules that you must abide by in order to be
safe. For example, never handle a weapon that
you haven’t inspected yourself. Always make sure
there isn’t anything in the chamber（腔镗）, and never put
your finger on the trigger（扳机） unless you are ready to
shoot!

A: Wow, I didn’t know! It always looks so cool and
easy in the movies!

B: The reality is different you know, running and firing
a weapon is a lot harder than in the movies! So
are you ready?

A: Let’s do it!

Maggie: Hey! Do you want to go out tonight?

Lydia: No, I think I’ll pass(我不去了，婉转的拒绝). Mark broke up with me. I feel awful.

Maggie:

Lydia: I don’t know what I did wrong. He said he needed some space to figure things out...(他想要一点空间把事情想清楚)
He said I didn’t do anything wrong, that I’m a great person...just not the one for him...(you are the one->非诚勿挠)

Maggie: Ugh! That’s so clich'e(陈词滥调). Mark’s not worth your time, Lydia. You deserve so much better!

Lydia: I know we had hit a rough patch(遇到困难,有点问题) but I had hoped we could work it out next weekend,
....

Maggie: Whatever. He’s a jerk(蠢人), forget about him!There are many more fish in the sea.
(哈哈,看来西人特别喜欢鱼,Lydia will catch another fish).

Lydia: Talk about being clich'e, Maggie! But you’re right. There’s no use for me to sulk around(到处发泄愤怒)...

至于Language take away, you can eat here too!!

其实我听录音的时候，主持人介绍学习点时有两部分：

1. Vocabulary Preview  生词预习

2. Language take away 短语，常用说法 (显得流利地道的法宝)

我在帖里有中文注解的就主要针对这两部分。

补充词汇不在对话里，是引申出来的。

突然觉得３６５篇似乎太多，不如先贴感兴趣又特别实用的部分。

I was told that a US'gallon was smaller than 1 UK's.
Many years ago Australians had gallon but it's the UK's one.
Well, I was lazy enough not to find out of the actual numbers.

Cool. But as a supporting actress, I won't make a grand entrance (华丽出场), which will make me to steal your thunder (抢你的风头). I'll be aware of my boundary (知道自己该做什么), not step on anybody's toes (别惹恼别人). Lol.

Kidding, I would give it my best shot (使出浑身解数) at doing the above, I was just promising those to make sure I can grab a chance (抓住机会) to show off 显摆 what you already knew.

Thank you for your kind words! I picked up those things in work settings, movies and newspapers, but I never thought I would put them into Chinese expression until I found out about you guys' passions. Now, it pushes me to figure out what they really mean in a particular context, which helps me understand a lot better.

Hey, I'm now a rich woman thanks to you guys, just to show you all how much your generosity is appreciated, I am gonna lay out (陈列出) my English version of a monologue by famous comedian--Ma Shan Li.

I was once asked by my colleague regarding Chinese drink culture--If Chinese men get drunk? I said: Oh, pretty much so, to give you the idea how drunk they could be, please hear a well-known funny story.

Well into the night 夜深人静, two men--A & B staggered out of 摇摇晃晃地 a pub, roaming about 晃悠 on the street and bragging 吹嘘 how much more they could drink and still could stay sober (保持清醒). But they actually couldn't find their way home.
A: I just couldn't believe I would be this much soberer and wiser after that many shots (这么多杯酒), now I feel like I still can settle for (还能够) many more.
B: No, I don't think you are still with it(清醒，能够理解事务). But, look at me, I am the more conscious & wiser one. To be honest, I feel like I was only half-way done (才喝到半尽兴) with the shots.  
A: How could you pass yourself for (把自己装成) the soberer one when you couldn't even keep your balance?
B: How could you claim yourself the wiser one when you acted as an idiot?

Then, A switched on 打开了 a torch, pointing it towards sky. The strong, bright beam just shoot up into the sky forming a straight light pole upwards.

A: To prove how sober you are, I dare you to climb up the pole and see how high you can go!
B: I can sure climb up as high as I want to, but I am wise enough not to do that. Because, if I get up there, I fear that you will switch off (关掉电门). If you did, I would drop dead (摔死).

Here is the conversation between my team leader and me:

Carol: Hey, just something between you and me, Ok? I recently dropped off (投简历,把东西送达) my resume in another hospital, I'm considering relocating myself there.
Me: Oh, this comes in as a huge surprise. I believe you have been doing a fantastic job and enjoying a wide-spread popularity (享有广泛的拥戴). Your wanting to leave will catch boss off guard (打个措手不及), and I don't think she will have a good find (找到好的雇员) to fill in your shoes (在你的位置上做得跟你一样好).
Carol: Thanks for your acknowledgement(认可), darl. But I live too far away from here, I will be too old for the crazy traffic later on. Actually, nowadays, I find it harder and harder to cope with. Besides, I am not all that great. I followed your post for exactly what you meant to, so I just poured stuff out there, being convinced by myself 自己说服了自己 that it doesn't have to be 100% correct, neither does it have to be extraordinary (非同寻常). Because what we put up there is just for fun, for sharing, for arguments' sake (为了能够引起讨论), and also, later on, we can have something to reflect back on (重新思考), to refer to (参考), to reconsider what we can understand differently from the expression, but in different context.
I promise I will tag along (陪伴你) for years to come (很多年), for as long as we both can carry on 坚持下来，if I can be any help!

Growing up in a traditional chinese culture, I make absolutely no exception (绝不是个例外) to take a high moral ground (居高临下地对人说话/站着说话不腰痛) when it comes to judging other people's bad choices.

When we come across 遇到 some situation that makes a little sense (不是太讲得通), for instance, when people are addicted to drugs, or when people break their promises, when people stay being gays. Comments would fly out of our lips 情不自禁地说出 like this: How could he do this? How couldn't he do something different? We hardly ever put ourselves in their shoes (设身处地地为他想想) and try to put things into perspective (客观地去看待事实). Because we are strongly convinced that their behaviours are beyond comprehension (不可理喻), and we are not willing to make sense out of nonsense (设法理解荒唐的事儿) either.

Thanks to my adopt culture (多亏了这个接纳了我的文化), I gradually take on some different approaches (不同的处事方式) to understand what's happening in the society. Now, I would handle things differently and try to figure out what's behind all these choices, which makes my working relationship much more therapeutic (治疗性的) and some crucial issues much easier identifiable.

I once looked after a young chappy (小伙子), who presented to hospital for drug-induced endocarditis (心内膜炎). When I went through the questionnaires, he ended up ( 结果变成告诉) telling me he was doing so many other drugs he was shamed of telling doctors. I responded in a very neutral, non-judgmental attitude: Would you like to talk about it? please be aware, I am here to provide nursing assistance, not to judge. If you are willing to tell me what that is, I will figure out the available resources and make it accessible to you (让你能够得到帮助).

After he revealed his lifestyle, I got a hint that he was seeking some social assistance, hoping to turn his life around (将生活向好的方向改变). Then, I put in place (安排好) for him Drug & Alcohol counseling services.

When I worked in Aged Care years ago, I was allocated to a lady, who was an end-staged (终末期) cancer sufferer. When I helped her out of shower, she was pacing around (疾速地跺着脚走) in the room, kept mumbling that she felt she was about to loss self-control and thinking about killing herself.

Rather than throwing around (不加思索地说出) those cliches (陈词滥调)--Why did you do that to yourself? or you got such a caring family or you got lovely children, bla bla, because I was well-educated by western culture that suicidal ideation (自杀观念) is not something you can talk somebody out of (劝阻某人做某事).

So, I got straight into the point (直切要点): How do you want to end your life?

She said she hadn't sorted out yet, but she couldn't put that idea to an end (停止这个想法). I went to the nurse-in-charge to run by (汇报/告诉) her, and this lady was put on high-risk suicide watch.

But unfortunately, she jumped out of the window the second night.

So, it's always amazing how you can come about (遇到) some better solutions and better outcomes if you take a different approach. I am sure I will stick to this non-judgmental communication skill, which will take my career somewhere I should be!

Here's some thoughts hovering around (在脑海中萦绕) while I am walking Harvey.

I bet you guys still remember the tragedy that killed two bubbling teenagers (花季少年) when a barrier wall collapsed in the wild wind in Melbourne. Until now, questions still remained unanswered.

I really wish that the related authorities would put grave concerns (严重的担忧) on this safety issue. Whenever there is an incident involving life loss, some grave concerns need to be raised and some personnel should be held accountable. Authorities should be thinking about what could've been done differently to avoid the same accident and such.

I am aware that people will always have to deal with the aftermath to the best way they know how, to survive emotionally and psychologically. There's an old saying suggesting that what's been done is done, let's move on and get on with our life. But it's not something for those who lost their loved ones to get over with, to move on from. And it never will.

The bottom line (归根结底/事实) is, it's not about unforgiveness, not about how much punitive payout (惩罚性赔偿) needs to be made, but about how much the life should be respected, about how seriously the general public's best interests should've been taken.

Now, I feel so much relieved when I can let out what's been bothering me recently.

I am on the mobile device and I can't type Chinese today. But I will get back to it tomorrow regarding some points.

Don't worry, Michelle, I became smarter than my smart phone now, so this won't be accidentally posted twice. Heehee

Good morning, all!

Before I doze off (小睡一下), just drop a line (写个便笺) to share an Ozzy humor with you. However, due to the sexual references in the context, I strongly recommend that anyone under 18 read it under parents' guidance (PG).

A senior Ozzy lady (Mary) under my care told the OT (Operating theater) staff: Just a little heads up (顺便提个醒), guys. If I need a cannula (静脉针) inserted today, please don't tell me: Mary, I am gonna put the cannula in now, you will feel a little prick (在医学上， 意为针刺的感觉。 但，澳英俚语为小鸡鸡). So many staff told me this when they put the cannula in for me. But, for all those pricks I felt, nobody ever bothered to tell me who he was (哪个家伙干的). So, today, if you guys put in cannula for me, it would be nice to tell me who he is.

One of male staff looked around: Oh, it would be Peter then. (Peter, by the way, is a tall, strong male staff).

Everyone in the room just burst into laughters, but, Mary still kept her face straight (一脸严肃), staring at peter up and down: No, he wouldn't possibly have a little prick (小鸡鸡).

When I handed over to OT, I mentioned she would probably have a Bi-ventricular pace-maker (双心室起搏器) inserted, given her past medical history.

She took over immediately: Yeah, that's right, when it gets done, it has to be done properly.

Peter: In that case, I guess you would be much better off (得到更大的利益) to have two put in, just in case the battery goes flat (电池耗尽) in one of them.

Thank you for bringing my attention to the 2nd part of the joke, Michelle! More often than not, when a joke has to be explained, that means the teller hasn't told it right.

In this case, I just took granted that you guys understood the medical terms, which I realize now is a bit difficult. Then, I'll explain some of the context in a better way.

Usually, when we talk about inserting a Bi-ventricular pace-maker for someone, that means his whole heart is in a critical condition, in which both ventricles fail to respond to the commmand from the atrium and are unable to pump out blood efficiently into the respiratory and systemic system. If left untreated, patient's health could go down the hill pretty quickly.  

So, Bi-ventricular pace-maker will address the critical conditions in the best way that can be fixed. That's why Joan said: When it gets done, it has to be done properly (既然要做起搏器，就必须要好好做，要个最好的). Apparently, she joked about her critical condition in sarcastic way.

However, it is much more expensive and technically challenging than regular one. The battery in the generator (起搏器的发电中心) will last for about 10 years or more, which means within that time frame, battery needs to be replaced if patient still is doing Ok.

But Mary is a 80+ year-old, so you can do the math and see if that's still sound to have the battery replaced when the time lapses. That's why the staff teased her about putting in two pace-makers, so she doesn't have to worry about the 2nd operation she would be going through (Anybody seriously thinks that's possible?).

Sure, I will post a happy one for you, which happened between a doctor and patient. By the way, this patient has been doing doctor shopping (不停地看不同的医生，因为病人认为自己看过的医生都不能解决他的病痛) for multiple minor complaints.

Doc: Hey, please tell what brought you in today!
Patient: I have been tortured by so much pain recently, and have been visiting so many doctors. But, nobody seems to be able to help me or care about me that much.
Doc: Right, I can give it a try then. Now, can you please tell me where the pain is.
Patient:  Oh. It's everywhere, all over the body.
Doc: Oh, poor you! Now, can you point out where it's hurting the most?

Patient pointed the tummy, back, shoulder, knees........

Patient pointed to the back of head: Oh, here it's even worse.

Good day, guys!
Today I will give a touch (简单地谈谈) on the interpersonal skills (交流技能, 人际关系) in the work place. Then, later during the day, I will pick up wherever I left (重新捡起以前帖子里漏下的) in the previous posts.

To begin with it, comes a little background on what I do. I guess you guys already figured it out that I am a nurse fighting for a living (为生存而奋斗) in a public hospital, where you can really feel what international community means. I have been put on nurse-in-charge position every now and then (时不常地, 偶尔), just helping out whenever there is a shortage for in-charges.

As an in-charge nurse, we will have to do the nurse allocations (分配管的床位) for the next shift. Most of the time, the workload just get too crazy for nurses to cope. And we have to take into consideration (考虑到) all the nurses' (7-8 nurses in one shift in day time) skill scope (技能范围) as well, making sure that all the allocations are safe for both nurses and patients.

For so many times, a nurse, who is the same level as me, always picks on (挑毛病) my allocating skills even before the involved nurses themselves approach me--He got allocated to the same patients again? You allocated her to the heavy load? This one shouldn't be allocated to the acute section; bla bla.

Then, one day, right after the arguments about the allocation, I decided to take it up to (开诚布公地找她谈谈) her to sort out any possible further issues. Here is the conversation between us.

Me: Hey, Kim, I was wondering if you can spare a few minutes (节约给我几分钟--尽管你明白这绝对不会只需要几分钟的) for me? There is something I would like to bring up to your attention (引起你的注意).
Kim: No problem, my dear.

She directed me to room one. As we entered the room, I said to the two patients: Hey, guys, if you don't mind, can you two keep your ears shut, we two are gonna have a private conversation here.
Both patients were laughing, then I realized I should keep ourselves professional (保持职业形象). I said to her: No, Kim, it's too political an issue (政治性太强的棘手问题) for these guys to hear. Let's move ourselves out.

Me: Hey, buddy, I get (懂, 知道) that  you are an out-spoken (坦率的), honest person, and you like to take everything out to the open (公开地谈事情), I respect you on that regard (在这方面). But you should notice that the allocation issue is not something that you should bring up even before the allocated staff approach me. We have been trying very hard to be fair to every single staff while still keeping in mind patients' safety care.

Kim: I know that for sure, my dear. I was just trying to tell you what those staff had been through (经历的困难) in previous shift, you just couldn't imagine how crazy it was, some staff didn't even get a dinner break (By the way, being crazily busy is nothing uncommon (司空见惯的) in public hospital).

Me: Yeah, my dear, I am aware of that. But every section is busy one, no matter which one I allocated them to, it's always a tough task, there never have been any easier allocations. I know you are trying to look after the staff, we all do, we all help out each other, don't we?
Kim: Yeah, we sure do!
Me: But, the way you go about it (处理事情的方式) seems to make you a nice person, me a bad one.
Kim: Oh, No, I am not (a nice person).
Me: I know you are not (a nice person--laughing). I noticed that the staff involved sort of take it personally (觉得这种分配是针对个人的).
Kim: Oh, no, that's so not professional. I'll tell them off (训斥)(Apparently she knows who am talking about). You know, when it gets busy, they just take it out on (对别人乱发脾气) other staff.
Me: Oh, that's not what we call professional, is it. They should be learning that being a real nurse takes a life time, this is just a beginning.
Kim: Yeah, they will have to learn that. But the reason I am questioning your allocating staff is not that I am trying to make friends with them.
Me: Don't you worry about that, my dear! I never thought you would make any friends because of who you are (你的品行,做人/处事方式--我当然是开玩笑了, 她是个很热心的人).

Until then, we both couldn't hold any longer just laughing.

Kim: Please don't get me wrong (理会错了), my dear. There's nothing we can't work out, please still talk to me if you see the needs. You know that I like to keep things in the open.
Me: I sure will do. And there's also another thing I would like to run by you (简单地谈谈), sometimes I found myself really love you, but sometimes, I found it very hard to love you.
Kim: Haha, I don't mind you saying that, as long as it has been said in my face (说到当面).
Me: Absolutely, don't you think you are one of the few people I ever dare (胆敢, 斗胆) to be brutally honest with (粗暴地诚实地对待, 诚实到粗鲁的程度)? Let me put it this way (我就这么给你说吧), I could be carefree (无忧无虑地) when I swear at you in your face(当面), and I could also kiss you in front of everybody if you are well-behaved (好好地表现).
Kim: Haahaa. I know you love me.
Me: But sometimes, you are really the pain in my ass (不遭我待见, 同样的短语 pain in my neck).
Kim: Is that so? In that case, you should make sure that you will never sit down again while I am around, because you got me in your ass!

Haahaa, to tell the truth, I just forgot when was the last time I laughed this hard!

But, be very mindful (千万注意, 小心) that, this kind of talk only suits two people knowing each other very well, and also the conversation has to be taken to the private (移至没有旁人的地方), just showing each other the respect (让对方注意到相互的尊重). Just in case (以防万一), when anyone lost his cool (失去冷静), things would spin out of hand (失去控制).

Once again, the names in the scenario is faked. Don't even try to pin that on anybody (对号入座).

I remembered that I was once pulled over (被警察拦下来停在路边) by police when I lived in Adelaide.
I was driving with my daughter in the car, looking for someplace I had never been. And I drove into a lane for right-turn.

When waiting for the traffic light, I realized that I mistook the place for (误认为那是我要去的地方) where I meant to be. Looking at the rear view mirror, I found there were no any other vehicles approaching, then, I safely pulled out of the right-turn lane, returned to the main road. Before I knew it, a police car followed me with the sirens alarming.

I got panic and said to my daughter: Where was that car coming from, it seemed to spring out of nowhere (从鬼地方弹出来的).

Anyway, the police directed me to a quiet parking lot, I winded down the window, waited for the police to come up to me (Please see a little tip attached, just in case you come across this scenario).

Me: Good day, sir, how's it going?
Police: I'm well, Madam. How's your day been?
Me: Not too bad so far (It could be turned to bad depending on what he decides to do regarding my minor traffic violation), thank you, sir.
Police: May I have your license, please?

He took my license into his car, searched the database in his computer and gave it back to me.

He asked me: You don't have an Australia license yet?
Me: Not yet, sir. I just started driving here in Australia for about 3 months, and I am still very much overwhelmed (被。。搞得焦头烂额) by the different traffic rules.
Police: Fair enough (可以理解)! But you don't drive back into the main road from the right-turn lane in China, do you?
Me: I know what you mean, sir. I got admit that what I did just now was terribly wrong, and I learned my lesson from it. but I can assure you I will never, ever do it again, sir.

Then, I saw a big smile sweeping through (笑容满溢) his face, which encouraged me to take further adventure begging him to go easy on me.
Me: Sir, I am new to this area, so, I am a bit lost at directions. Especially when I saw the flashing lights, hearing the sirens from your car, my mind went totally blank, and I had no idea what I should do.

Now, another big smile showed up on his face.

Me: Sir, considering that I have been a good driver ever since I started driving here, Can you please give me a break? I promise I won't do it ever again. Please!
Police: Well, I guess I can cut you some slack this time. But I won't let you off the hook easily, I will let you go with a warning today, never, never do that again. Can you promise that?
Me: Of course I can, sir!

After he drove off, I said to my daughter: He is the most handsome black policeman I have ever met.
My daughter said: Mom, the smile you put on with him is the most flattering one I have ever seen in you.

Tip: Whenever you got pulled over by the police, don't panic but sit tight, because what's done is done, there's no point crying over spilled milk，just try to keep your posture. Wind down the window, wait for the police to approach you.

Never, ever open the door and get out of the car unless told so. Otherwise, these actions would be taken as signs that you are charging at police, which could possibly turn things into a serious situation. As result of that, you could be under arrest or be shot.

Howdy, guys!

Now I would like to touch base with you guys on the issue some of us might have come across--working place bully.

When I first started my nursing job in another hospital, I was so intimidated and extremely cautious about whatever I was dealing with. So psychologically damaged in Chinese working culture, I got used to being addressed to in a condescending and rude manner by the authorities.

So, whenever being bullied, I still chose to put up with it, instead of standing up to the bullies. Because being tame to authorities is what I have been raised to, I didn't know any different. I never thought "Zero tolerance to bully" actually meant something to me.

At that time, there was this in-charge nurse, who got a very strong personality and poor interpersonal skills.

But I got admit that she was a very passionate nurse, always treated patients with passion and care. So, she was so eager to push new staff to learn in her way, but she went at it in a very confronting and insulting way.

Unfortunately, my orientation (3 months long) was allocated to her. And that turned out to be a tremendously traumatized period I have ever had to go through in Australia system.

In every single shift I did with her, I constantly suffered from her rude push-over, sarcasm, lash-out. Everything had to be done either in her way or no way. Hanging around me all the time, she always had a bone to pick with me on every single patient's care I provided. Sometimes, after she picked on me and left the room, even the patients said "Even I myself am very pleased with your care, what is her rude manner is all about?".

I was so stressed out and vulnerable, and so angry with her that I attacked her on her personal life in private. I said something about her that was so uncalled for, so unjustified: "No wonder her husband couldn't bear with her any longer, her personality totally explained why he cheated on her and eventually run off with someone else".

Not long after my permanent employment was secured because I survived my probation with a ward-wide recognition. I decided to speak up on her bully and put an end to it. One day, after her another public lash-out (发脾气) at me because I failed to do something beyond my training.

Me: Kelly, can I have a word with you when possible?
Kelly: Sure, what is that about? (She seemed to be very naive and innocent).
Me: Do you really want me to talk about it here?

She looked around the nurse station and maybe realized that wouldn't be something pleasant other staff should witness. She showed me to manager's office. I guessed we both were very much in the same page what that conversation would touch on.

Me: Kelly, what you just did in front of everybody was rude and hurtful. It destroyed my self-esteem and undermined my performance. That task wasn't meant to be on my shoulders and I wasn't trained to do ward clerk's job either.
Kelly: Ok, if I hurt you in any way, I apologize for that, but I just thought that was something easily fixable and you don't need any training for that.
Me: Kelly, I have been busy as it is, are you asking me to put my task on hold to do something I don't know how? Then, afterwards, you come to my assignment and pick on whatever you want to?
Kelly: Hey, where are these all coming from?
Me: You know exactly what I am talking about, Kelly. And I'm not talking about only today, so you know, from now on, if you find something I did wrong, please take it up to the manager. I just don't want to put up with your manners anymore.
Kelly: No, I am nurse-in-charge, I'll have to talk to you.
Me: In that case, you will have to take on different approach, otherwise, I wouldn't want to talk to you in any way.
Kelly: Ok, I will work on that. By the way, when I talked to you like that, I didn't mean to hurt you, it's just the way I talk. If you are hurt, I apologize.
Me: Ok, let me make it very clear, the way you talked to me was not acceptable for me. Please take on different approach and mind your manners (God forgive me, that was the only one time in which I had to take on such a rude and strong stand against anyone).
Kelly: Sure, again I am sorry for what happened.

From then on, she just became a totally other person.

So, she could address to me differently, it's not as she claimed "How she talks", only that I needed to bring it up. A year ago, I moved to another hospital for better opportunity. It was nothing to do with her at all. but thanks to her, I came out as this stronger lady today, which brings my career to a different level.

As a song just puts: What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Lol

To recall back to the day, I was still taken aback by how boldly brave I was towards her and how unjustified some of my remarks were. When I told her "I don't care how you always talk to others, it's not acceptable to me", "Please mind your manners", I had gone too far to show my manners. It's so not me, so many memories just keep rushing back to me as that 就像一个长工找到新地主,告诉他,爷之所以在近40岁高龄还迁移到这里, 就是因为爷在自己那片地儿上受够了气,才来的. 不图别的, 就因为你向爷宣传你这片地儿上兴 fair work, fair go. 既然爷已经来了,也不在乎出多少力,你还想跟爷训话象天朝似的.免了吧, 您! 爷不管你是啥样的性格, 爷来到你这一亩三分地儿上, 一心想的是好好扛活, 但是,不想再无缘无故地 bei 呵斥. 所以,你还真得, 是龙你得盤着, 是虎你得卧着 (I know pretty well that it should be the other way around).

现在, 俺明白了俺娘为啥说俺是个二百五, I guess she had a point. 曾经后悔自己的失态,想着给她说个软话来着,But was held back by the thoughts: What's done is done, there's no point crying over the spilled milk. We should both move on and we did,  then we got along just fine, both pretended nothing had ever happened.
嘿嘿嘿嘿, 只想搏你们一乐!

Another term is poly-pharmacy (汉语通常说药罐子). Usually after doctor shopping, patients get different prescriptions from different doctors. The problem is these doctors don't cross talk to one another, the medication they put on patients could detrimentally interact with one another, it's like patients are on medication cocktails, which might accidentally cause life-threatening conditions.

Before I am off to work, just jot down (快速写下来) a little something to keep you guys company (陪着你们). This conversation happened in my farewell party in my former working place.

When the farewell party was about to end, Susan came to me: Hey, you! I understand that the grass in the other side of the fence always seems greener than this side (通常比喻人们老是望着那山比这山高, 总认为别的地方比自己这地儿好). I'll let you go now, but keep in mind that when you don't enjoy it over there, don't you dare to crawl back to us. We won't offer our shoulders for you to cry on (给你个肩膀让你靠着哭,意为安慰你).
Boss laughed so hard and said: Cut it out (停下来, 别说了), Susan! Of course you can crawl back, Ping (My name has been already given away 泄露出去 in my ID) ! But I suggest you to get pairs of knee protectors, there is good deals going on now in Bunnings.
Susan: Yeah, good idea, Boss! I am pretty sure it's gonna be a long way (不是那么容易让她爬回来,意为要经过很多麻烦) for her to crawl back!
Cathy (One of the in-charges): Ping, all the jokes aside (撇开所有的玩笑在一边). Please be aware, when the grass turns brown on the other side (如果那边并不像你想象的那么好), we will welcome you back with open arms (张开双臂)!

Morning, All!
Today I am gonna share a conversation between my patient and I. But rather than I translate  some points into Chinese, I will leave to you guys to figure it out.

Me: What do you do for a living, John (By the way, John will the name for all my male patients in all the relevant coming scenarios)? If you don't mind me asking!
John: I retired already. Thank God I set up two supers when I worked, so I can live a decent retirement life. Because of that, my retirement pension will also tide me over (帮我渡过难关) this disturbing financial situation while I go through this major operation.
Me: Just out of curiosity (出于好奇), John. Did you get around well? Did you still do some exercises (John is overweight, that's where my question is coming from)?
John: Oh, I have been very much active and living a nomad-like (像个游牧民一样) life. My wife and I have been constantly on the road around Australia even since I retired.
Me: That's sensational! How do you guys travel around?
John: We live in a caravan, and there are so many free parking sites for caravan all around Australia.
Me: Cool. Since when you started traveling like this?
John: Since forever (一直都这样/从来都是这样). My parents used to put us all in a caravan and showed us around.
Me: So, you pretty much left no stone unturned in Australia land, still haven't had enough of it yet?
John: Yeah, you can say that. Australia is somewhere you will never have enough of(感到厌倦).
Me: Ok, I will take your word for it (我相信你说的话). Is your wife enjoying this kind life as well?
John: Not at first, she wasn't that into it when we first got married. But she gradually takes this passion on board, now she is the first one to pack whenever we are about to set out.
Me: How wonderful! It's a bonus (意外的奖赏) if you have your loved one to share the same interest.
John: Absolutely! After my surgery, If things pan out (成功), we are gonna hit the road (上路开始旅行) again!

Should be "I'm very much flattered". However I can guarantee you, Michelle, you won't be able to hear this every so often, because whenever you praise the Aussies, they always say: Thank you, I'll take your word for it.
"I'm very much flattered" is an out-of-date expression now. Haahaa

Couple of days ago, I woke up to a very exciting discovery--I had been moved to a luxury townhouse (我现在是小公寓主). Straight away, I turned into laugh-crying, I kept telling myself that all my hard work finally got paid off (得以报偿).
My thoughts flashed back to day 1 when I came to FreeOz, I just marched into the unknown (勇敢地挺进到未知 的领域), armed with nothing but bold bravery.

Fighting for a decent existence (为了一个体面的生活而奋斗), I took every possible job that's available, just trying to get out of my homeless-on-street (街头浪人) status. All these years, I have done much more than you can imagine to get this far (到了今天这地步), for instance, I had messed around (意指灌水) in somebody else's posts; drop off a word "agreed", holding up signs :faint, or haaahaaa, sometimes even more shamed as Heehee......etc. All these trivia tasks made me enough to secure the down-payment (首期付款) for my townhouse.

Until not long ago, I got a decent job offer, which may turn into a permanent position depending on how far we can go, from Michelle.

The payment (意指各位高人的评分) has been quite extraordinary, actually more than I expected.

Then, one morning, a fairy tale just came true (美丽的童话得以实现了). A homeless guy was pulled out of street and escorted into a beautiful townhouse, needless to worry about anything, all the payment was paid out automatically.

The extra bonus I got from this position is: Nothing is off limit to me (有权进入很多领地, 意指我的阅读权限100), so I can pose my nose into (打探别人的隐私) someone else's personal life (Just joking), I can spend some money (意指给别的帖子评分) carefree, and so many more.  

Since I came a long way to get where I am now, I made a decision that the housewarming (温锅, 意指发帖子) parties will be held regularly. But how regularly it is depends on the ticket office (票房, 意指赚的分数), view-rate (点击率), critical reviews (对帖子的点评) and such (诸如此类的). You are all more than welcome to drop in (浏览), to make comments, or to do whatever.

All in all, I wish all the best to this show, hoping it will last for as long as our passion exists!

想当年（其实就是两个月前）我还是大公寓主的时候，小帅是小公寓主，他问我的帖不多，为什么房子大？
我才突然有了想搬家的意识。
两个月里不知不觉地依次住进联排别墅、花园洋房、海景别墅、私家园林，非常快，但想升级的欲望也越来越淡。
现在就一心想借论坛学点东西。

One day, in the middle of something, a patient asked me all of sudden: Ping, where are you from?
Me: I am from China! And you?
He looked at me in the bewilderment (困惑不解): I'm from Australia.
Me: No, I meant where were you initially from?
Patient was still in the wonder (不懂我究竟什么意思): Here, I was born here.
Me: What?
I put on a surprising look: You were an aborigine?  
Patient: Oh, I see where you are coming from now (我明白你为什么这样说了). I just never thought of that way (我们两个当然都明白他的意思:从来没认为自己也是外来的). I have never been asked that question before.
Me: Neither have I until you did (我骗他的,人们经常问这样的问题,我只不过想告诉他,我已经认为:除了土著人,别的都是外来的罢了).
Patient: You are a tricky one!!

One day, a lady told me right before lunch that she felt squeamish. I couldn't figure out what on earth squeamish meant.

While I was struggling searching my mind vocabularies, she started gagging, appeared about to vomit. I quickly grabbed vomit-bag, grabbed anti-emetics and successfully ceased a vomiting incident.

After she settled down and enjoyed her lunch, I asked her: Are you up for something funny?
Patient: By all means!
Me: Just now, when you said you felt squeamish, I couldn't sort out what that meant. But thanks to my talent and experiences (嘿嘿,我逗她玩儿呢,这种现象是不需要任何智慧跟经验来辨别出来的), I am very good at picking up body language. Just from your physical struggling, I figured that must be something to do with being sick. Otherwise, this yummy lunch would have been in your dream, if I didn't know what I could be doing to help you out.
Patient: Haahaa

PS: I don't think I have to be bothered to put chinese on the word "Squeamish", as smart as you guys, this word will be figured out in no time.

Now, I would like to share a joke regarding Asian parents' mentality on their children's academic performance (学术成就).
A father and a son were on the way to the hospital to pick up the result of the son's blood type. The father was trying to make a nice conversation with the son, because he realized he had been quite short with (动不动就跟...发脾气/爆粗) his son recently by focusing on only his study.
Father: Hey, talk to daddy, son. What's new with you (最近有啥新动向吗? 当然老爸只想知道学术方面的)?

The son struggled for a little while, not knowing what his father's best interest resides in (存在于) now, because his academic excellence (学术优异) has always dominated (主宰着) their father-and-son talks. But now, all of sudden, his father asked about something new. Then he figured the sports was something he just took on board recently and decided to go with it (顺着这个进行) starting the conversation.

Son: Well, I started playing table tennis recently, I have been doing great, winning so many matches in school.
Father: That's Ok, son. Now, talk about something else that's happened in school.
The father was only keen to be informed of the academic achievement, but he didn't want to ask that directly, hoping the son would drop the idea (不再认为) "Daddy is only interested in academic performance."

Son hesitated for a few minutes, and then brought up the bullies he had been through recently in a bid to (期望能够) win his father's attention on it: I got beaten up by some boys in school, they were calling me names (给我起外号)--Nerd, wonk 死读书的人, geek...
Father: Oh, come on, son. You are a big boy now, you should have known how to handle all of that, I don't wanna to hear you whinging about this (抱怨某事). (Just a little heads-up 一点小提醒, everyone, school-bully should never be something you would turn blind eyes to 对某事装看不见, 莫不关心). Switch to (转换到) something else, such as exams, study...
Son fought back his tears: Yeah, I got an A in physics.
Father: Not bad, son! What about the math?
Son: Got another A.
Father: Hmmmm, not too bad, son. But, you could do a lot better (你还可以做得比这好的多). Chemistry?
Son: A plus.
Father: Well done, son. I can treat you a nice dinner (请你吃晚宴) tonight. English?
Son: B plus.
Father's eyes became wide open: B plus? How could you get a B plus? No more chance for you, you die (这里意为,你这B plus 的成绩, 以后连个工作也找不着, 你死定了).

Son got scared and his sparkling eyes (From the possible yummy dinner) turned dark. Then, they got to the main entrance to the hospital. The son went to fetch the result leaving the father in the car.

As soon as the son showed up, the father asked the son in an angry tone: What is your blood type?
Son responded with a panic tone: B positive, daddy.
Father went into a rage: What? Another B plus? What's wrong with you exactly? Just wait, when we get home, I'll whip a bitch (抽你这个狗崽子).

Hope this will keep you good company over the weekend! By the way, this joke credit goes to my lovely daughter!

I don't know as much as you thought I would, but I did a great job to hide my inferiorities. I wish it could take a little bit longer before I fail to hide my true color (暴露出缺陷).
