尤其是从前从中文的角度了解了些，再看原文真是奇妙
再就是想了解下澳电台播电影的取向
有时间就多写，没时间就少记

The Tolstoys were a well-known family of old Russian nobility. Tolstoy's parents died when he was young, so he and his siblings were brought up by relatives. In 1844, he began studying law and oriental languages at Kazan University. His teachers described him as "both unable and unwilling to learn."

Tolstoy left university in the middle of his studies, spent much of his time in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. In 1851, after running up heavy gambling debts, he went with his older brother to the Caucasus and joined the army. It was about this time that he started writing.

His conversion from a dissolute and privileged society author to the non-violent and spiritual anarchist of his latter days was brought about by his experience in the army. His European trip in 1860–61 shaped both his political and literary transformation.

Personal life

On 23 September 1862, Tolstoy married Sophia Andreevna Behrs, who was 16 years his junior and the daughter of a court physician. She was called Sonya, the Russian diminutive of Sofya, by her family and friends. They had thirteen children.

这是一部了解  'outback' 澳大利亚的经典片子，故事背景设在1960年代。 生活过 bush 里的人不会陌生；生活在城市里以及受过教育人的部分人不能忍受许多镜头， 所谓爱的人爱死恨的人厌恶死   
一个年轻的喜欢悉尼梦想伦敦生活的为 bond (去偏远内地教学的协议) 教师 John Grant， 正直学校圣诞假期，返回悉尼途中为赶飞机，停留在这个Yabba 小镇上。恶梦开始。

战争给普通的士兵带来的是什么？ 为谁而战？
18岁、19岁从教室出来后参军、军训、上真正的战场、第一次亲手杀人望着他痛苦地死去的震撼、从战场返回后与后方的人无法理解沟通，最后自愿平静地接受死亡。

自从来澳，完全改变了原南韩青春片的看法
看了很多，都是关于人性本身人心理的片子

改编于小说 Painter of the Wind
电影出来后被韩国学界人批评：篡改历史，因为小说主人公历史上毫无疑问是男性
南韩历史上此画家以性爱画留名，没有任何个人情况的记录

女孩子顶替哥哥来到了宫廷画院
（哥哥自认缺乏画家的天才而自杀）
画一切所看到的：自然景色、寡妇见狗交配、河里洗浴的女人们、女女爱表演、男女性爱等等（大量儿童不宜镜头）
有才能的女扮男装的画手与mirror maker相爱；引起她的mentor一系列阻止举动，最终制镜子的年轻人死亡。

sin city, 俺已经下载了，还没有时间完整看。。感觉不是特别暴力呀 。。。
Jessica Marie Alba。。 俺很喜欢。。不过她演的神奇四侠 隐身女。。没有这部片子里的野性性感。。。
还有那个 哈利贝瑞 演的 风暴女。。。大家更喜欢哪一个呢？。。。

rainmaker 可以意喻制造奇迹的人;rain 还可比喻为钱
大学法律专业毕业生，以弱胜强；美国保险业大公司律师团败其手下。
离现实很近，信息多有看头

The movie opens up with a lantana bush going alone a bit creepy music. Then a woman's body shows up.
I could believe the movie would be a detective show. It turns out the story is more than anything else but the human dimension - what people are and how people act.

It's a story of the 4 couples: the police officer with his wife, the psychiatrist with his academic husband, Jane and her seperated husband, the only happily married young couple. The first three have got problems in their marriage for whatever the reasons behind. The last couple don't have much money but believe in TRUST.

Absolutely brilliant!
Love the music, gentle and soft
Characters:
Tony -- a young Londoner, aristocratic, gradually depends on the Servant totally, hopeless
Susan -- Tony's girlfriend, aristocratic, failed to overrule the servant.
Barrett -- developed character, being a servant as the start, then turns the table around and ends up as the master in Tony's house.  'Give me another chance,' -- quote from the servant.
Vera -- Barrett's lover; before her presence, one would think the issue of the movie was homosexual.
implication - big time change in Britain history / how up-class lost their authority

The Hallelujah Trail -- 1965 American comedy                       中文影片名字      禁酒风波

The movie is hilarious and I laughed all the way through.
The word Hallelujah in contemporary worship is in general to express the thanks and praise to the Lord.
The informal usage of HALLELUJAH is to show happiness on something that people have hoped to happen at long last comes true.

Settings,
1860s sometimes after American Civil War (1861 to 1865). The white settlers just made peace with the Indians.
A mining town is named Denver which is located in a mountain area where the snow will close all the passes to the other places when the hard winter comes.
The landscapes in the movie are magnificent.

The key storyline is that the 40 wagons of liquor are supposed to transport to Denver before the snow comes.
This is involved a few groups of people fighting for it.
The first group of people is the minners who love to have a glass of whiskey in winter.
Frank, a buisiness man has his every penny tied up in the 40 wagons train.
Cora, a temperance leader, groups wemen to destroy the alcohol train.
Other groups are the local Indians and the army of the USA.
This is just a start.

In the potent biographic film, I fell in love with her songs and her soul.
How could the Little Sparrow - height in 142 cm - has such a powerful voice?
How did the waif-like woman manage to go through all odds of her life and yet kept coming back to the stage?
She was Ms Edith Piaf, the famed worldwide French singer who was one of the few singers above wars.

I have to admit that I got confused while watching the movie. It jumps back and forth, sometimes without givng timelines. It's not clear until reading a lot of the singer and watching heaps of her live show videos that I was able to put all of these pieces together.
Piaf was marvellous. The perfermance of the actress was extraordinary. The director incredibly showed the way the singer lived her life. It's an unforgettable movie.

Alfred Hitchcock was a well known director. Tippi Hedren was an actress who worked with him in two films.
Tippi was a blonde. 'Blondes make the best victims,' Hitchcock once said. The Girl was Tippi, the blonde who refused to be Hitchcock's victim, of his sexual obsession to blondes.
The TV film was largely based on Tippi's perspectives. Hitchcock's children argued her accuracy.

Hitchcock's seen as the greatest director by thousands of his fans. He was a genius and his films frequently revealed disturbing psychological truths, but who was often blind to his own motivation. No one would know exactly who he was.

I didn't quite get it as the film began. THe reading followed afterwards grabbed me in. Can't get rid off my mind, making me wondered what the genius man was really like in reality.

In short,  it's better to read more before coming to the movie.

A Frozen Flower    2008 South Korean movie

a brilliant masterpiece that I would like to draw a conlusion to this movie, well, apart from a bit too much of nudity? too much homosexual and heterosexual shots? The story is truely fascinating; the acting of all the three protagonists is superb; and the costumes and sets are a real feast for the eyes. Can't have enough.

It mixes all of emotions that human could feel. The last part, when Hong LIM sees that the Queen is alive, he twistes his head to look onto the King whom he once looked up to, love to, protected by; the Kind did not kill his loved one. A tear sheds ... the last drop!

Is it the King's fault to have such an abundance of deep affection with his gay lover?
Or is Hong Lim the one to be blamed for being confused between being a queer or being a man to love the King or to love the queen?
A woman is neglected by her husband and has her virginity to a man. What do you expect her to do?

Precious - 2009 American drama

I don't often see this side of the America. The film took me into the quite depressing world of an unfortunate girl.
Precious, a 16 year old obese girl, lives in Harlem (a district of Manhattan in New York, largely a Black ghetto)
Precious is not precious to anybody. The girl has been miserable for her entire time on the earth, raped by her father since she was 3, abused both mentally and physically by her mother. She's also illiterate.
She hardly talks. We see her often imagining herself a star and be loved and applauded, a means of her putting off with nightmares?

Deliverance  1972 American thriller movie   中文片名  激流四勇士

The film is based on a 1970 novel of the same name by James Dickey, who is also the screenplay writer as well as a role playing in the film as the Sheriff. THe author is telling us of civilized man's ability to survive in a confrontation with the wilderness and all the primitive challenges. The novel consistently appears in top 100 lists of ENglish language books.

The instrumental song 'Dueling Banjos' won the 1974 Grammy Award for Best Country Instrumental Performance.

Now we come to the name of the film Deliverance.
deliverance (synonyms: salvation, rescue)
the state/act of being delivered/saved/liberated/rescued from something dangerous or unpleasant
The director tried to lard it with lots of significance and all the popular stunts in the market - the nature of man, universal, men rapes, cowboy, Indian, inbred, middle class men's superior to the poor and uneducated locals - hillbillies  (contemptuous of the poverty)

THere are double meanings in the dialogue in many scense.
When the four men on the river bank, Lewis said to Ed: "you got a good job, beautiful house, beautiful wife and kids. I don't know why you come with me." Spending a night by the river, Ed has a line:"Doen't matter what's happening in the world, no one can find us up here." He expresses that they're free, delivered from all the cares of the world. The film is about basic masculine urges and how they are surpressed by modern and civilized life. Men have an underlying need to express deeper urges.

No women was invloved in the story apart from one scene where the camera peering through the window, we could see an old woman with a disabled child. The film took place in Georgia, and parts of North and South Carolina. The shots there were not set up - the falling down houses, the way they lived, the old dancing man and other hillbillies - it was just exactly how it was.

Several lines for the four men's personality: Ed is the careful man. Lewis is the macho man concerned with idea of survival. Drew is sensitive and artistic. Bobby is aggressive and cowardly.

电影中没有女人的角色，只有一个镜头透过斑驳破旧的房窗，一个老妇和一个残障儿。电影拍摄地点是美国东南部的乔治亚州和部分南北卡罗莱纳州。破旧剥离的房子，他们的生活方式，跳舞的和其他一些都是真正的‘乡下人’- 这些都是真实生活展现。

几句话简说4个主角的个性：Ed 比较谨慎； Lewis 凸显男子气概注重野外生存技术；Bobby 自傲而遇事怯懦；Drew 敏感具有艺术家的气质。

Lola Flores (21 January 1923 – 16 May 1995 aged 72) was a Spanish singer, dancer, and actress, married a famous flamenco gypsy musician, had three children who are also famous singers. When she died she left a fortune.
The movie draws her story to the screen but only narrates the half of it which ends up in the year of 1958 when she at long last got herself married.

Lola became an icon of Spanish Gypsy culture from working-class roots in Jerez, Spain. She loved dancing from very young age though She was not a gypsy herself. I was impressed that Lola knew exactly what she wanted from life since she was a little girl. Financed by a wealthy antiques dealer she and her family started enjoying luxuries. Not long after she returned to the stage rising to greatest success.

I failed in a hope of seeing a lot of flamenco. Too much jumping in bed shots, really a wrong focus.

Although I don't agree with what Li did during the period of his time, I must admit that all of the Chinese elements in this movie made me very emotional. I miss China, the culture and the people in general ... so much!

我的做法是：
每周买电视节目预报（与报纸一起的）
圈下所有一周要看的文献记录片，园艺节目和电影
录制机设置录制DVD（可重复录制的DVD片）
看过之后，喜欢的节目复录到DVD（一次性录制），没保留价值的删掉。
这样的做法是不受时间限制，保证上班以及正常作息

Frozen River - 2008 American Crime Drama  

Life is harsh for the indian mother whose first child was taken away as well as the mother of two who is abandoned just before Christmas. To make matters worse the indian mother could not read and the white could not get a full time job. With the desperate circumstances the two mothers are drawn into trafficking illegal immigrants across the frozen river to make money.

4 ethnic groups showed in the movie

the Indian people - the mother and the people in Indian reservation
the Chinese men and women - smugglers (the men saying in Mandarin “臭女人" & the women "发生什么事了？")
the Pakistani couple - smugglers （duffel bag might contain explosives）
I'm not happy with how the Chinese were portryed in the movie. Apparently the screenwriter didn't know much about Chinese.

Seems to me the movie looks like a semi-documentary.
The story takes place in central Brazil in 1940's when the three brothers made peace with the indians and persuaded the government to found the Xingu National Park - Indians reseves.
