Young bushwalker dies on Queensland mountain

A YOUNG bushwalker has died while trying to climb Queensland's highest mountain.

Police said the 22-year-old man collapsed and died while walking on Mount Bartle Frere, south of Cairns, with a friend yesterday afternoon.

Paramedics were called after being told a man had collapsed from heat exposure. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the Department of Community Safety said.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
