ford territory or subaru forester/outback, ford if you have a large family, subaru if you still want a normal car's control (especially suspension and steering, fuel eco) for most of the time.
maybe consider Territory LPG? but that sacrifices space, which maybe vital for a SUV
and also, do you really need a 4wd? sometimes a station wagon will just do the job for 99% percent of the time and for the rest maybe it's cheap to rent a real off-roader such as land rover or land cruiser, those softroaders are not really jeeps, just cars with 4wd functions which can go off road occasionally.
