POSITION DESCRIPTION
1.0 POSITION LEVEL: HEW Level 6
2.0 POSITION TITLE: Senior System Administrator
3.0 REPORTS TO: Team Leader, Server Systems Support
4.0 SECTION: Information and Communication Technology Services (ICTS)
5.0 ELEMENT: Information Services (INS)
6.0 SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
7.0 POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Nil
This position has primary responsibility for monitoring and supporting the corporate server
infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
8.1 8.2 Provide system administration of the central INS computer systems for which ICTS is
       responsible. Ensure that these systems are operating efficiently and are effectively
      supporting user requirements.
8.3 Develop system software and documentation for use by system operations and
   administrative staff.
8.4 Provide support service to computer operations and client service groups in all aspects of
   corporate server use.
8.5 Assist clients and other computing personnel on all aspects of server operating systems
   and support applications and advise them of developments in server support and
  operating system architecture and capabilities.
8.6 Continue to monitor developments in software and hardware to improve systems and
   services.
8.7 Support and promote the INS values and utilise these as the foundation for achievement
   of all position accountabilities.

Monitor and maintain integrity of the corporate computer systems and backup
subsystems. Develop standards and procedures for these systems.
Perform any other duties as required from time to time as directed by the Team Leader,
Server Systems Support.
POSITION CONTEXT:
This position is an IT senior system administrator within the Division of Information Services. This
position may be required to work on any campus of Griffith University and will involve some
evening and weekend work and on-call support.

11.0
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential:
11.1 Tertiary qualifications in a relevant area or equivalent degree/qualification with relevant
    experience.
11.2 Experience in all aspects of the administration of Solaris and RedHat Unix Operating
    System including security, storage, backup performance tuning and networking.
11.3 Experience in all aspects of the administration of server infrastructure, including high end
    server hardware and storage subsystems and infrastructure monitoring solutions.
11.4 Experience with systems programming and support of infrastructure applications.
11.5 Excellent client service skills, including telephone skills.
11.6 Good written and verbal communication skills.
11.7 Ability to work effectively in a team structure and independently.
11.8 Demonstrated ability to analyse and resolve complex problems.
Desirable:
11.9 Knowledge and Experience in Storage Area Networks and/or Network Attached Storage.
11.10 Experience in one or more of Oracle and Peoplesoft.
