Joyce totals his government car

THE Nationals senator Barnaby Joyce has written off an $80,000 taxpayer-funded four-wheel-drive after trying to drive through a swollen creek before Christmas.
Senator Joyce said last night that the incident happened in Burren Creek, in northern NSW.
There was no flood indicator, the road was not closed and there was a sign saying ''drive slowly'', he said. He ''got just about through'' when the Toyota Land Cruiser stalled. He left the vehicle and sought help from a farmer. They attached a chain to the four-wheel-drive and pulled it out of the creek.

However, Senator Joyce said the engine wouldn't start as all the electronics had ''died''.
Such was the extent of the damage to the computer operated components, the insurer has written off the vehicle.
All MPs and senators receive a free car for personal and work-related use in their electorates.
