兰迪的生词本 - 我爱背单词
词汇是学习英语的基础,我曾经有个比喻,有了大的词汇量就好像学武功的人内力深厚,练任何招式都会变得比较容易。试想如果一个句子里面就有2,3个单词你根本不认识,你怎么可能看得懂呢?更不可能听得懂了吧?
我开这个帖子,主要是为了自己的单词学习,也希望有人来一起背单词。
争取每天至少增加一个单词。这些单词都是我看英文的书籍,杂志或者网站等等碰到的。个人比较不喜欢机械的背单词方式。
每天哪怕只记一个单词,一年就可以增加365个单词词汇量。贵在坚持,加油!:tk_05

Point-blank
1. If you say something point-blank, you say it very directly, without explaining or apologizing.- I asked him point-blank why he was doing it.

Stammer
If someone stammers, or if they have a stammer, they speak with difficulty, hesitating and repeating words or sounds.- He turned white and began to stammer.

Slump
1. If there is a slump of something such as the value of something, of if it slumps, it falls suddenly and by a large amount.- ... a slump in property prices ...
- Net profits slumped by 41%.
2. A slump is a time when there is a lot of unemployment and poverty.
3. If you slump somewhere, you fall or sit down there heavily.
- She slumped into a chair.

Dab
1. If you dab something, you touch it several times using quick light movements.- She dabbed indine on the cuts...
- He dabbed at his lips with the napkin.
2. A dab of something is a small amount of it that is put onto a surface.
- ... a dab of glue.
Mortar
1. A mortar is a short cannon which fires shells high into the sky for a short distance.2. Mortar is a mixture of sand, water and cement, which is put between bricks to make them stay firmly together.
- Australian's love affair with property shows no signs of faltering, with 74 per cent believing now is a good time to invest in bricks and mortar.
Monetary

bounty
You can refer to something that is provided in large amounts as bounty.- ...autumn's bounty of fruits, seeds, and berries.
remorse
Remorse is a strong feeling of guilt and regret about something wrong that you have done.whinge
If you say someone is whingeing or having a whinge, you mean that they are complaining in an annoying way about something unimportant.- ...listening to everybody's whinges.
这里有个补充,澳洲人有时候会开玩笑叫英国人whingeing poms,是有点offensive的叫法,英国人对这个比较敏感。听得懂就行了,不要乱说。
defiant
If you are defiant, you refuse to obey someone or you ignore their disapproval of you.- The newspaper remained defiant over its latest confrontation with the royals.
defiantly

loom
1. If something looms over you, or if it looms up, it appears as a large or unclear shape, often in a frightening way.... the bleak mountains that loomed out of the blackness.
2. If a worrying or threatening event or situation is looming, it seems likely to happen soon.
The threat of renewed civil war looms ahead.
flounder
1. If something is floundering, it has many problems and may soon fail completely.- What a pity that his career was left to flounder.
2. If someone is floundering, they do not know what to do or say.
- I was floundering. I worked in a number of jobs. I had no direction in my life.
hostilities
You can refer to fighting between two countries or groups who are at war as hostilities. 我爱兰迪,谢谢你的分享,一定要继续哟。eligible
Someone who is eligible for something is entitled or able to have it.- You should be eligible for a grant...
- Almost half the population are eligible to vote.

wince
If you wince, or if you give a wince, the muscles of your face tighten suddenly because you are in pain or have experienced something unpleasant.- Just reading about it makes you wince.

candid
If you are candid with someone or about something, you speak honestly.- I haven't been completely candid with him.
- ...a candid interview. 支持你!
贵在坚持:good
skewer
1. A skewer is a long metal pin which is used to hold pieces of food together during cooking.2. If you skewer something, you push a long, thin, pointed object through it.

pout
If you pout, you stick out your lips, usually as a way of showing that you are annoyed.- He whined and pouted when he did not get what he wanted.
sage
1. Sage means wise and knowledgeable. A sage is a person who is regarded as being very wise.* sagely
- We all nodded sagely and pretended we understood.
2. Sage is a herb.
fume
1. Fumes are unpleasantly strong or harmful gases or smells....car exhaust fumes.
2. If you are fuming over something, you are very angry about it.
'It's monstrous!' Jackie fumed...
Mrs. Vine was still fuming.
smoulder
1. If something smoulders, it burns slowly, producing smoke but not flames.- The remains of a fire smouldered in a log basket.
2. If a feeling smoulders inside you, you feel it intensely but rarely show it.
- Anger still smoulders about the allegations.
