【My Christmas 2008 】Wonderful Christmas in Geelong
本帖最后由 妮南 于 13-10-2016 19:58 编辑My boyfriend Ball has finished his short time work at Henan College of Finance &Taxation ,China which is one of the partner universities of Victoria University, he came back Melbourne on 23rd Dec. Oma (Dutch, people call their grandparents Opa and Oma ) invited us to go to Geelong on Christmas day. Geelong is hometown of Paul, he was born in Geelong, and spent more than 20 years there before he moved to Melbourne with his family.
Opa and Oma are both Christian, they often go to Church near their house. Oma told Paul on the phone:“we are going to church in the morning, and go back before11 o'clock, you can go to Joan's house first.” Joan is Paul's sister who has been living in Geelong, and her husband is Michael whose parents migrated to Australia 50 years ago from Germany .
We got up early on 25th Dec, Paul rang his oldest sister Gina first, greeted to her family. Then I drove to Geelong with Paul, It took us about one and half hours from home. We arrived in Joan's house at 10 o'clock, Joan has put their two tables in dining room, there were about 20 beautiful plates on the table, and she has prepared a lot of food, such as vegetable and fruit salads, beef, Chicken and dessert. This is my first time to meet Joan,Joan said they had a travel to China couple weeks ago, and Michael said:“I like China very much, we visited Beijing, Luoyang, and Guilin in October this year”, they showed us a lot of photos which were taken when they were in traveling China.
It was about 12 o'clock, Michael picked up Opa and Oma from their house, and they brought two big bags. In western culture, we need hug and kiss each other when we meet or leave in some special day, that means we are friendly. Oma gave me a present with colourful gift's bag, and Opa gave Paul a bottle of Australian wine. Oma and Opa prepared many presents for children. Paul had a gift for Opa, a stick for old age people, and I gave a pair of Sunglasses to Oma. I'm sorry for that I haven't prepared presents for Joan and Michael this time, but Paul has bought a box of beer for Michael, and some food as well.
After 12 o'clock, Michael's brother and Paul's brother came here with their family, they all brought a lot of presents with colorful gift's bags and wrappers for each person who they mightmeet. Such as, chocolates, books, children's toys, mugs and cups, wines, cakes, DVDs,and so on. Everyone greeted “Merry Christmas”, hugged and kissed each other.
Michael's parents got to here when we were having dine, they live in Geelong, close to this house. They also brought some food here. We took a few of photos at this time. we were happy together.
Family have dine together, it is like our traditional Chinese Spring Festival.
This is my second Christmas day in Melbourne, how is a wonderful day. I enjoy it and I would like share my christmas with others..

What a wonderful X'mas!I like that cute santa lolly on the plates and the lovely Christmas tree:yct_6Me and my husband also went to Geelong on the 25th and enjoyed the beautiful views:yct_2
btw, is it a Dutch tradition to wear a paper crown for X'mas dinner? Looks fantastic! Geelong is a quiet and beautiful small town, I like it, maybe we will move to Geelong in someday.

People wear the paper hats on Christmas , it isn't just the Dutch culture, It should be the western custom.回复 #1 Rondy 的帖子
