Let us make short bushwalking at Glenbrook of Blue Mountains in the morning and 采荠菜 at Penrith in the afternoon for this Sunday, June 20, 2010.

Walking track: Glenbrook – Euroka Clearing – Nepean River (return, 8 KM, 2-3 hours, easy)

Euroka is a great place to take overseas visitors for a picnic. As you’re almost guaranteed to see kangaroos. The site of an ancient volcanic vent formed at least 150 million years ago, these days Euroka is a small valley with fertile soil and grassy clearings. This track makes a circuit that starts and finishes at Euroka, visiting the Nepean River along the way.

For 采荠菜, see [聚会]那啥,荠菜上场了。。。。

We are going to “City” walk from Chatswood Station to Eastwood Station this Saturday July 10, 2010.

Chatswood Station to Eastwood Station

This one way track of 18 KM with "easy-medium" grade will take 5-7 hours

Following the Lane Cove River and Terry's Creek, this walk uses the valleys between the stations to explore some suburban bushland. From Chatswood Station, the walk soon leaves the suburban area and passes through the bush along the Lane Cove River. A great station-to-station walk with a few options for snacks along the way.

The meeting time and place

10:00 AM, Saturday 10th of July, at crossing of Thomas Street and Katherine Street of Chatswood
GPS S33º47´53.2278", E 151º10´46.5918"

It is compulsory to wear hiking/bushwalking shoes/boots.

We are going to walk “I THINK I CAN” at Glenbrook of Blue Mountain this Saturday August 7, 2010

I think I Can: A highlight of this walk is chance to get a close up view of the Knapsack Viaduct, completed in 1867. It was the most celebrated structure in the colony for many years. The viaduct carried the first trains crossing the Blue Mountains. The gradient was so steep that the trains needed to take the ascent in short sections. This was achieved by the engine pulling the load up to a switch point. The train as then switched to the rails parallel to the first leg on the next gradient. The engine then pushed the train up to the next level. This walk is along what remains of the old zigzag route as well as along a later cutting to a tunnel designed to by-passed the zigzag. A lookout over Glenbrook Gorge with the railway beneath our feet is following by a view into the Blue Mountains National Park to round off this history journey.

Meeting time and places

9:30 AM of August 7, 2010 at Car Park next to Blue Mountains Visitor Center at Glenbrook

We are going to see Deer and bushwalk at Royal National Park this Sunday August 29 2010.

The Deer Stalker

This loop track of about 15 KM with “easy” grade will take 4-5 hours

The beauty of the forest encouraged park management to make a Forest Park Track in 1886 “to open up the park to the public.” Well done!

The walk explored an area, where deer can be seen. Early settlers, to provide more familiar animals than kangaroos, introduced deer. They are still here in limited numbers. Walkers need to be observant, as deer are shy. They are likely to be seen by the creek before reaching the rock pool or on the forest path after leaving Lady Carrington Track.

The meeting time and place

10:00 AM, Sunday 29th of August, at Car Park of Waterfall train station.
GPS S34º8´6.23", E 150º59´43.15"
Walkie talkie 477.150 MHz (Ch 30)

It is compulsory to wear hiking/bushwalking shoes/boots.

16 of us walked 15 KM for near 6 hours including 10 min morning tea and 30 min lunch break and coffee time.  Everyone enjoyed very much although we did not see Deers.

Based on my own experience,  limited numbers up to 5 persons in group could have chance of seeing Deers at site, but  we are 16 today, so ...... you could image

As suggested by Hoopoos

http://www.freeoz.org/ibbs/thread-916752-2-1.html

we are going to 2 days hiking and one night camping along Great North Walk from Hornsby to Brooklyn for this weekend (both Saturday and Sunday September 4 and 5 2010)
if weather permits.

Day one (Saturday) Hornsby to Ridge top campsite (only 300 meters away car access point, the crossing of Turner Road and Coreen Cl of Berowra Heights), 22 KM with 1240 meters ascent and 1330 meters descent

Day two (Sunday), Ridge top campsite to Brooklyn train station, 16 KM with 840 meters ascent and 1050 meters descent

There are several opinions to finish whole or part of track and “FB”.

1)        Everyone carry own gears including tent (could be shared if possible), sleep bag, water, foods (two lunch, one dinner and one breakfast) for whole track, and overnight at ridge campsite;
2)        We could share to carry tent, food, water and other gears if need, and have hot pot at campsite;
3)        Part of us could come and overnight at the campsite (ca 300 meters away car access point at Turner Road) on Saturday evening and have hot pot or even seafood buffer at restaurant near Berowra water ferry;
4)        Part of us who come for 3) could walking on Sunday only;
5)        Part of us could walk on Sunday only (starting from campsite).

The meeting time and place
7:00 AM, Saturday 4th of September, at Hornsby train station
8:30 AM, Sunday 5th of September at the Ridge top campsite.

It is compulsory to wear hiking/bushwalking shoes/boots.

Please SMS 0402 817 164 or MSN petercai08@hotmail.com for your intention and confirmation.

Outdoor activities carry their own risks of injury and death. The Organizer has no any control over what the participant does, and cannot accept any liability for any loss or accidents which the participant might suffer.

We are going to “Sea to Summit” this Saturday (other than Sunday) September 11, 2010 at Stanwell Park, near south of Royal National Park.

This is easy track of 8.5 KM for 3-5 hours, suitable for any level.

This walk combined a strong along a wide ocean beach with a hike through tall timber on a well graded track to the summit of Mt Mitchell. The walk has wonderful views overlooking Stanwell Park, the ocean and the Coal Cliff beach. The path to the summit was a coach a road built by convicts. You can admire the rock wall embankments that were constructed to make a level track. Bushrangers held up travelers along this path. Mt Mitchell was named after major sir Thomas Mitchell, the Surveyor General of Colony, who owned land in this area.

The meeting time and place
10:00 AM, Saturday 11th of September, at end of Station Street of Stanwell Park
