UPDATE: The 29-year-old man charged over a horror crash that killed a newlywed couple in Toowoomba on Australia Day has been held in custody.
Ricky Shane Prins had his case mentioned before Toowoomba Magistrates Court today.
He remained in Toowoomba Hospital where he is being treated for injuries sustained in the crash.
He is charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance whilst excessively speeding, and one count of unlicensed driving.
Prins' solicitor Claire Graham requested the case be adjourned to later in the week so she could obtain further instructions from her client.
Magistrate Damian Carroll asked Ms Graham whether or not it would be likely Prins would be discharged from Toowoomba Hospital during that time.
"I wouldn't expect so, certainly not between now and then," Ms Graham replied.
Mr Carroll adjourned the case until Friday.
9.30AM: The man charged with causing the death of two people in a horror crash on Australia Day in Toowoomba has not faced court this morning due to his injuries.
The 29-year-old remains in Toowoomba Hospital with injuries to his legs, chest, head and abdomen.
The East Toowoomba man has been charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance whilst excessively speeding, and one count of unlicensed driving.
He was due to face Toowoomba Magistrates Court at 9am today.

A duty lawyer will visit the man at the hospital this morning to decide whether or not to do a bail application.
The application could be made this afternoon.
7AM: Police have charged a 29-year-old man after investigations into a fatal traffic crash that occurred in Toowoomba yesterday morning.
It is alleged about 4.45am on Australia Day, two vehicles were travelling south along Ruthven St when one of the vehicles collided into the rear of the other.
Recently married couple Grace Cai, 27, and Calvin Zhou, 26, died at the scene.
The 29-year-old East Toowoomba man has been charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance whilst excessively speeding, and one count of unlicensed driving.
He is due to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court this morning. |
