Where is the best place to go skiing in Australia?
I somewhat agree with Mel. Skiing in Australia is ridiculously expensive, and for a week, you could ski in New Zealand for less; including the air fares.
However; Australia is convenient; and there are good resorts. It depends on what level of skiing you do. If you are an intermediate skier; then the best would be perisher-Blue; because it combines three different ski areas in one area.
Thredbo is probably better for more advanced skiing; but there are good areas for intermediates as well. the trouble with Thredbo is that the runs are longer; but the lower part of the main run is lower, and in a poor season, might not ski 'top to bottom'.
I usually prefer to ski at Thredbo; but i also take a drive down to the 'ski tube terminal from Thredbo (a short drive), and spend a day or two at Perisher blue. this gives me the best of both worlds. There is also a bus service from Thredbo to the tube; but I think it only runs once a day each way.
If you stay at Jindabyne; you have the choice of going to either resort.
The Victorian Alps resorts are generally a bit smaller, with shorter runs; and it is not so easy to commute between them; as they are on opposite sides of the ranges. But the runs at Buller and Mt Hotham can be quite challenging. |
