Cons: No paper statements unless you you want to pay for it. (although can be downloaded in pdf).
Cons: 1.) They don't highlight the fact that you need to top up your account with cash if your intention is to withdraw cash from an ATM (within Australia or overseas). Any credit card transaction will first reduce any credit (the cash you paid into your account over and above what's owed in any given statement period). This means, if you withdraw cash while going into debit, you will be charged interest - not only for the amount of cash you withdraw but for the whole balance going back to the first day of the respective statement period. So you have to be very careful and keep track or just deposit a large enough amount prior to departing.
2.) I agree with a previous comment where they stuffed up when you opted out of printed statements in order to avoid the $0.50 penalty. I had the same thing happen, no emailed notification that the statement was going to be available online and no printed statement mailed out - resulting in us missing the payment due date, subsequently we were billed interest for the whole period. I complained and refused to pay, and it was fixed. But it was an unnecessary experience.
3.) We did not appreciate GE Money's "pushing" of their new 28Deg cards in replacement of the Wizard CA MasterCard, as the new cards include the new "PayPass" or "PayWave" feature (all the banks are pushing this currently).
We refuse to accept this payment facility on our cards, as the security without using a PIN or Signature is non-existent! You WILL be liable for losses incurred as a result of any of these $100 easy transactions as a result of losing the card. Do you want to be held liable for 30x or 40x $100 transactions done within an hour of losing your card?
I cancelled PAYWAVE/PAYPASS on my Visa card and my bank had to send me replacement cards (wasting money and resources in pushing the first set), but GE MONEY would NOT offer their new 28Deg cards WITHOUT paypass/paywave.
This is why we have cut ours in half and unless we can continue to use the old Wizard CA MC's, then this will be the end of our relationship with GE MONEY.
4.) In their cover letter with the new cards that were sent unexpectedly, in the fine print, for the first time I read that withdrawing from foreign (overseas based) ATM's can incur an ATM fee charged by the ATM owner.
5.) They are shocking at responding to emails. After we received those new cards that we did not want, I emailed them to complain and requested new cards without the paywave/paypass technology. I furthermore requested clarification on the small print re: ATM fees (see 4.), however I did not hear back in 2 weeks, expect for an instant auto reply. I was forced to resend my email and call. Whenever I rang or emailed them to follow up, I was told that this would be handled by the "Customer resolution Department", the very same my email was supposed to go to. Finally, I did receive a reply but as mentioned, they would not offer this new card without this new feature. |
